Main purpose of job: 

  • To detect and verify documents pertinent to applications for British passports, and to identify non-genuine and fraudulent documents providing timely reports to Her Majesty’s Passport Office (HMPO) decision making hubs in the UK.

  • Develop operational intelligence products through the collection, analysis, interpretation and evaluation of relevant quantitative and qualitative information sources.
  • Work closely with HMG partners at post, host authorities and international partners to support the development of intelligence and investigations relating to applications for United Kingdom passports.

Roles and responsibilities: 

  • To adhere to New Overseas Counter Fraud Operating Model in line with both Home Office and Foreign and Commonwealth Office policies and deliver timely performance and meet set timescales. 
  • To take the lead role on HMPO business within the UKVI team by supporting and encouraging sharing of knowledge, skills and best practice and foster a culture of inclusion and engagement. 
  • To make sure all information is handled appropriately and protectively marked adhering to the guidelines set out in the Data Protection Act. 
  • To ensure all verification presents clear analysis and evidence based on facts before arriving at a well balanced and impartial decision, and an in-depth summary delivered to the UKVI Team Leader within time frame at the end of every case. 
  • To cultivate a mutually beneficial working relationships, with colleagues and external and internal stakeholders, in order to cultivate a atmosphere of trust, with a view to improving service delivery and a good relationship between all.
  • To take ownership and drive own learning and development and take steps to improve your skills and knowledge.

What we do: 

UK Visa and Immigration (UKVI) is a risk-led operation that protects the United Kingdom’s borders and meets global customer service standards. UKVI New Delhi is the decision-making centre and is one of two issuing operations in India. UKVI Dhaka works alongside UKVI Delhi as an enrichment and visa printing operation. UKVI works closely with Immigration Enforcement International and Her Majesty’s Passport Office in the delivery of the Home Office and Her Majesty’s Government’s objectives. 

What we want from you:

The HMPO verification officer will need to have excellent people skills to enable them to build relationships with key partners to assist HMPO deliver its objectives. Face to face work is a fundamental part of the job, as the successful candidate will be required to conduct regular field visits and engage with stakeholders.    

The role of the HMPO verification officer is extremely varied. The successful candidate will need to be able to manage very challenging workloads, deliver at pace and be flexible in support of business aims. Once up to speed in the role the successful candidate should be able to work towards objectives with minimal supervision. 

The role necessitates travel for field visits. The successful candidate will be required to build and maintain an effective stakeholder network with the appropriate authorities and institutions to deliver UKVI/HMPO’s verification objectives. Most of HMPO business is located outside of Dhaka and overnight stays will be required. Training will be provided on the job, but there may be an opportunity to attend training in the UK, most likely for duration of 1 week.

Learning and development opportunities:

The successful candidate will be provided with bespoke training in the region and potentially the UK. 

Working patterns: 

Although office hours are Sunday to Thursday (0800-1600) an element of flexibility is required as the jobholder will be required to travel within the country/region as appropriate. Compensation will be provided in the way of time off in lieu (TOIL).

Other skills / experience / qualifications:  

Essential

  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • A high level of written and spoken English with the ability to write high quality reports and
  • briefings.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • An ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision. 

Desirable:

  • Previous immigration, law enforcement and/or analytical or investigation experience would be an advantage.
