The Foreign & Commonwealth Office’s (FCO) diplomatic missions in Benelux are part of a world-wide network of over 200 Posts representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. Corporate Services Benelux (CSB), a joint service leading on operational support to the UK diplomatic missions in Brussels and Benelux, is now looking for a Kitchen Porter.
The main role of the Kitchen Porter within a large diplomatic Residence is to undertake a range of duties within a team and also to support the effective running of the Residence operation.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Dishwashing: Washing all dishes, crockery and cutlery used in the delivery of events at the Residence, either by hand or using the commercial and domestic dishwashers. Hand washing and storing the Residence crystal after events;
Ensure silverware is at all times polished and ready for use;
Rubbish: empty all bins and ensure waste is disposed of promptly and re-cycled where possible;
Kitchen: occasionally perform basic food preparation (following Food Hygiene course);
Purchasing: accompany chefs to suppliers/markets and assist in purchasing;
Maintenance: ensure all kitchen equipment is cleaned and maintiained;
Occasionally assisting the Maitre D’hotel in the set-up events, moving furniture, clearing tables, etc.
Previous experience gained in a professional kitchen as plongeur/kitchen porter;
Experience of working in a commercial kitchen;
Ability to demonstrate consistently high standards;
Good verbal communication skills and excellent customer focus;
Good operational level of spoken French English;
Ability to work within a team;
Ability to multi-task and demonstrate adaptability;
Abilty to operate flexibly in respect of working hours and duties;
Willing to take on new responsibilities as necessary;
Ability to undertake manual tasks.

- Previous experience of working in a 4 or 5* hotel/restaurant environment.
This is a permanent part-time position, where you will be expected to work a maximum of 20 hours over a 5 day period, over 7. This will often be Monday to Friday but the nature of the work within this busy Residence means that you will be expected to demonstrate flexibility in your hours and timetable of work - often at short notice. This may include night and shift working, variable hours, weekend and bank holiday working. Time off in lieu (TOIL) will be granted for additional hours worked at the discretion of the Residence Manager.
The monthly gross salary for this position is € 1,158.62 gross S3 (L) level. In addition, we offer an extensive salary package, which includes a 13 month, meal allowance, hospitalisation insurance, reimbursement of public transport and a lot more. We offer more days of annual leave than the Belgian requirements. Uniforms will also be provided.
Please note that Belgian nationals will be paid their salary gross and are expected to comply with their tax obligations through completion of a tax return to the Belgian authorities. Non-Belgian nationals will receive their salary net, minus the deduction of an equivalent level of Belgian tax retained at source. Further information on this will be given to candidates during the recruitment process.
The successful candidates will be subject to professional background checks and security clearance.
Staff recruited locally by the British Diplomatic Missions in Belgium are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Belgian employment law.
Visa/passport requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Belgium and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract. Additional requirements may become necessary pending EU Exit. If requirements change additional eligibility information will be shared during the recruitment process.
