Main Purpose of Job
The successful candidate will work as part of the Immigration Enforcement International (IEI) team at the British High Commission Pretoria.
IEI form part of the Immigration Enforcement arm of the Home Office within Immigration Intelligence and the Pretoria team is responsible for 27 countries across Southern, Eastern and Central Africa. We work with UK and international law enforcement partners to tackle immigration crime, primarily through preventing the travel of inadequately documented passengers to the UK; enhancing visa decision quality; identifying and tackling underlying criminality and providing intelligence about threats to the UK border.
The successful candidate will need to be proactive as they’ll be required to assess intelligence and conduct research but they will also need to be reactive as they will be expected to deal with live enquiries.
The role requires effective decision making. The ability to analyse complex data and make recommendations based on the conclusions is important.
This is as an Immigration Liaison Officer (ILO) position and the successful candidate will need to manage 2 other staff members within the IEI team.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Handling intelligence and official data
- Receiving, grading and disseminating intelligence, circulating suspect alerts, contributing to monthly reports, and preparing monthly statistical returns.
- Conducting checks against government systems; using information to inform decision making.
Development, research and support of immigration crime investigations
- Recommending packages for operational research and investigation.
- Contributing to the development of investigations into the disruption of immigration crime.
UKVI engagement
- Analysis of harm data and presentation of findings at Operational Review Meetings
- UKVI briefings
Office management
- Management of 1 Immigration Liaison Assistant and countersigning officer for the office driver
- Training coordinator
- Management of workflow
- Reporting
Resources Managed (Staff and Expenditure)
1 x Immigration Liaison Assistant and countersigning officer for the office driver.
- Holds one of the following passports: UK, US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand.
- A working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Use of an evidence based approach to gather information from a wide range of sources and viewpoints, analysis and evaluation and reaching sound conclusions in order to propose constructive solutions.
- Effective and confident communication skills
- The ability to prioritise work effectively under pressure.
