Driver / Messenger

The British Embassy in Prague is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a Driver / Administrative assistant (full-time). 

Why should you apply?

The jobholder will be the personal driver to the Her Majesty's Ambassador to Prague and responsible for to drive other Embassy employees and VIP visitors as required, to run errands. To provide administrative support to the Personal Assistant to Ambassador and other Head of Sections as required.

What will the new hire be expected to achieve?

As Driver

  • Driving the Ambassador in the flag car
  • Driving the other official Embassy car – for example to buy or pick up goods, to run errands to  to other Embassies or Czech authorities, to drive other Embassy colleagues on  official trips; transporting  VIP visitors
  • Day-to-day taking care of the Embassy fleet (2 cars) - daily check of tyre pressures; hydraulic fluid, oil, radiator, and battery level; keeping the vehicle clean and serviceable; reporting any defects; ensuring security of vehicles

As Administrative Assistant when not driving

  • Administrative support to  the Ambassador´s office and Corporate Services
  • Keeping records of Embassy fleet including  fuel use
  • Occasional help to Residence staff with  moving/carrying heavy objects.
  • Responsibility for administering second  official vehicle (non-flag car) self-drive requests
  • Cover  for the Personal Assistant to HM Ambassador in her absence
  • Administration of and logistics for large Embassy events  
  • Procurement at the direction of the Ambassador’s PA

The Ambassador’s driver is a very visible part of the Embassy’s public face, both when driving and in personal appearance.  The successful candidate will be smart and courteous, the latter including when behind the wheel. 

The British Embassy in Prague offers excellent formal and informal development opportunities. Development opportunities specific to the role are available, but the Embassy also supports wider development objectives of each individual.  

Working hours schedule is set by the Ambassador’s Office with regard to the operational needs of the Embassy. The Driver’s working hours are flexible and are determined by the Employer at its sole discretion.

The weekly working hours shall be scheduled unevenly, whereas the average weekly working hours should not exceed 37.5 hours per each period of 12 consecutive weeks. Usually, the Ambassador’s Office will distribute the Employee’s working hours for period from Monday to Friday, between 1000 and 2100.

Our ideal candidate shows:

  • Fluency in English and Czech (both oral and written, minimum A2 level or above*)
  • High School Education
  • Minimum 5 years experience in driving
  • Valid B drivers licence
  • Experience with administrative work
  • Good communication and inter-personal skills
  • Reliability
  • Flexibility

It will be a plus:

  • Experience of  working with MS Office
  • Interest in current UK and Czech affaires

This is a full-time position of 5 working days (37.5 hours net) per week (24 months), with possibility of extension.

Working hours are Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 17:00 with a flexible working hours arrangement. Staff are entitled to time-off-in-lieu for extra hours worked. The annual leave entitlement is 25 days per year pro rata and the Embassy enjoys an average of 14 Czech/UK public holidays per year.

The monthly salary is 37,756 CZK (gross). In addition, staff receive meal contribution.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check, security clearance and 3 months probationary period.

The successful candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation for the Czech Republic in order to apply.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Czech Republic are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Czech Republic employment law.

Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Czech Republic and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
