The British Consulate in Dusseldorf is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a Senior Business Development Manager for the Renewables and Logistics Sales, B3 (L) within the Renewables & Infrastructure Team based in Düsseldorf.

About us:

The UK government is revamping its export strategy in order to meet its high level goals of doubling the number of UK exporters by 2020 and an investment target to increase the UK’s stock of FDI to £1.5 trillion by 2020. The Department for International Trade is the Ministry tasked with developing, coordinating and delivering a new trade and investment policy to promote UK business across the globe. As part of that remit, overseas representatives at British diplomatic missions in over 120 markets support the delivery of investment and trade promotion. One of the key sectors in the German network is the Renewable Technology and Infrastructure portfolio. So this is an exciting time to be joining the international team and great opportunities to exploit.

Main Purpose of the Job:

To lead the portfolio to promote the UK as a place to do business and boost UK exports to Germany in the Renewable Technology and Logistics sector.

The successful candidate will think strategically, sees the big picture, but is also very strong on project management, client acquisition and stakeholder management. The Senior Business Development Manager will play a pivotal role in the renewable energy and infrastructure team. There is much scope for creative thinking, new ideas and high levels of personal autonomy.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develop a business plan and shape the strategy around Logistics and public construction projects;
  • Lead client engagement to increase the value of UK exports to the German market and encourage German investment by building strong personal relations with key German companies at the most senior levels of decision making;
  • Provide high quality advice to German and British companies on market growth opportunities, challenges and regulation;
  • Support the Head of Renewable Energy & Infrastructure in shaping and adapting one of the multiple strands of the nascent technologies to deliver high value investment and export opportunities against  challenging targets;
  • Identify and project manage event and communication activities relevant to the sectors around key trade fairs, customer visits and missions in conjunction with the Embassy and DIT communications and marketing teams;
  • Working with multiple stakeholders across multipliers and other UK government departments, including colleagues in the German network and other overseas teams to get maximum benefit of a cross government approach.

 

  • Fluent in German and English, both oral and written;
  • Self-Starter – ability to work well on own initiative;Excellent interpersonal and networking skills;
  • Ability to work under pressure, delivering results against agreed targets;
  • Excellent time management and prioritisation skills, disciplined in meeting tight deadlines;
  • Ability to research and analyse complex information;
  • Good knowledge of the German and UK Business Environments;
  • Good IT skills, especially MS Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

 

  • Experience of the German and/or UK renewable technology and logistics sector;
  • Project Management experience;
  • Experience of Customer Relationship Management Software.

This is a full-time, position of 2 years with possibility of extension with 6 months of probation period.
