Community Liaison

The British Embassy in Algiers is seeking an individual for the position of Community Liaison Officer Grade B3 (L).

Purpose of the job

The job holder is responsible in working closely with Post Management for the well-being of all staff at Post, with his/her primary function being to act as advocate for and provision of support to UK-based staff and families (FCO and PAGs) on family and community issues, principally in the areas of information gathering, welfare and communication.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide accurate and useful information for UK-based officers and their spouses/partners and families (including for those not yet at Post).  To maintain information on spouse/partner employment at Post; children's education (through completion of separate HR School and Nursery Information Sheets of authorised schools at Post); feedback on adult education; career and training opportunities; single officer and foreign born spouse/partner issues; recreational facilities; social matters; and completion of DSFA Spouse and Partner Annual Employment Report.
  • Welcome all staff on posting/temporary duty/flexible deployment and accompanying families to ensure as smooth an integration as possible into the life of the Post community; following up to check that the settling in process is working; being a source of referral and support where questions, problems and difficulties arise; providing short Post induction. With the help of community volunteers, co-ordinate morale enhancing community events. 
  • Advocate for UK-based staff and families in addressing issues of importance with Post Management, including as their representative on Post Management Committee, evacuation/contingency planning, and as the chief link between Post and DSFA in London.
  • Maintain Post Welcome Pack, Post Report and Fact Sheet; manage domestic equipment float and inventory. Complete regular cost of living survey and ECA return.
  • Communicate effectively on community and social matters across Post to all staff.

The Embassy offers an attractive working environment and remuneration package for the role, including: net salary of 31,351 DZD per month plus 10,000 food and transport allowances; recreational facilities including the staff gym, swimming pool, and social club.

Conditioned working hours are 12 hours per week. Normal working hours are 08:00 – 15:30 Sunday to Thursday.  Applications for flexible working hours are welcomed.

The successful candidate will receive a prorated 25 days paid annual leave and up to 14 days paid public holidays.
