View Vacancy - Head of DIT C4 (01/18 MPT)
Main purpose of job:
This position leads the Maputo DIT team, setting the direction for the development of the UK-Mozambique commercial relationship. The jobholder will lead the oil and gas portfolio for DIT East Africa; contribute to the British Government’s wider prosperity agenda, working alongside FCO & DFID colleagues; and provide high-quality advice and analysis of the business environment and commercial opportunities.
Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:
Working closely with the High Commissioner and the DIT network in the UK, Southern Africa, East Africa, the job holder will be responsible for:
- building on the existing pipeline of market opportunities in goods and services for British companies to meet numerical and quality commercial targets;
- identifying and developing potential new market opportunities in goods and services for British companies and providing strategic advice to new entrants, especially in high-priority sectors;
- developing relationships with British business multipliers, eg sectoral trade associations, professional institutions, to disseminate information on Mozambique opportunities;
- following trends in priority sectors working with specialist teams in the UK;
- engaging with the Government of Mozambique, other State entities and the local private sector to promote British business partnership opportunities, including lobbying and market access support;
- providing market information to DIT HQ and UK-based businesses and bespoke reports where requested;
- working with colleagues in the FCO and DFID to promote mutual prosperity in the UK and Mozambique;
- organising and participating in high-level visits, inward and outward British trade missions and trade events;
- line management of a commercial officer;
- managing budget allocations for DIT.

- At least an undergraduate degree in a relevant field;
- At least 5 years’ commercial experience, preferably within the private sector, and a strong understanding of the Mozambican business environment and economy;
- Experience of working with Government departments and/or public sector agencies;
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, including to build credibility with senior government/business representatives;
- A strong track record in delivering high-quality services tailored to different customers;
- Excellent organisational and self-management skills to respond effectively to tight – and changing – deadlines and priorities;
- Excellent English and Portuguese.
- Knowledge of the British economy and/or British businesses/business organisations
- Knowledge of the energy sector in Mozambique
- The position is for a 12 month renewable contract.
