Communications, Press and Media

Main purpose of job:


To be a member of the Press and Public Affairs Team collaborating in exposure of external and internal activities related to the Department for International Trade (DIT), according to the British Embassy in Colombia objectives.


To collaborate in DIT communications section reporting and under the supervision of the Head of Press and Public Affairs and the DIT Deputy Director and with responsibilities and accountability in the areas of press, digital and events.


Roles and responsibilities:


Press & Social Media (40%)


  • Improve DIT presence in national press and Embassy’s social media through DIT Communications Strategy.
  • Monitor daily national media in economic and commercial issues.
  • Create news media reports after each DIT event or official visit.
  • Produce press releases, profiles and press material about Embassy’s commercial objectives.
  • Gathering, drafting and recovering information of DIT initiatives to be used at Embassy documents.
  • Create Digital Plans for DIT visits or events.
  • Determine key contacts in the media related to DIT’s projects and interests and engage them.
  • Provide important information about DIT to press when is need (key facts, killer facts and information).
  • Monitor press & social media in economic, trade and investment activity.

  

Sponsorship programme (30%)


  • Maintenance of the sponsorships project data base, and assistance in the identification of new sponsor opportunities with British Companies for the British Embassy.
  • Organise and assist meetings with prospective British sponsors.
  • Deliver value for money.
  • Assist PPA and DIT on the sponsorship programme and meetings scheduling.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, keeping record of all meetings.

Events (15%)


  • Coordinate with DIT and Press the requirements and logistics for each event, visit or mission.
  • Support to the organisation of official events and visits, including the preparation of agendas, arrangement of meetings and all related logistic activities.
  • To update Embassy Events Planner with DIT events.
  • Support on the media engagement during DIT events, visits and agendas linked to FCO priorities.

Design & Marketing (15%)


  • Provide and design marketing material (brochures, images, posters, invitations, among others).
  • To download and produce multimedia material such as videos and photographs when required.
  • Support to GREAT brand.
  • Be aware of and manage DIT and GREAT marketing resource centres.

Essential on arrival:

  • Currently enrolled in the last semesters of university degree in communications or a related subject (International Relations, International Business Management, Journalism, Advertising, etc.)
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge and interest of economic and commercial issues.
  • Available full-time and able to work sporadically on nights and weekends when there are events.
  • Responsible, committed to the job.
  • Sociable, able to interact and collaborate with different teams and external stakeholders
  • Strong communication skills
  • Works well under pressure and against deadlines.
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English and Spanish.
  • Interest in UK.
  • Strong organisational skills.


    Language requirements:

    Language:  Advanced command of written and spoken English and Spanish (Spanish and English testing will be given during interview stage).

     

    Level of language required: High Level Working Level English and Spanish (At least C1 level under CEFR)

    Desirable:


    • Graphic design skills (Adobe Creative Cloud).
    • Knowledge of world affairs.
    • Experience in project delivery.

    Learning and development opportunities:

    Successful candidate will have access to some internal training and job shadowing, as well as the opportunity (depending on interest and availability) to work on cross-embassy teams or projects

    The successful candidate must be in the last year of undergraduate studies in International Business, Marketing, International Relations, Business Management, Journalism or similar degrees. It is a mandatory that the internship is a requirement for obtaining the degree. 100% bilingual.
