Main purpose of job:

The British Consulate General in Sao Paulo is recruiting for a Locally-Engaged (A2L) Prosperity Analyst to provide support in increasing regulatory coherence between the UK and Brazil’s Financial, Legal and Professional Services sectors.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

  • Undertaking research and gathering data on specific Financial, Legal and Professional Services sectors.
  • Supporting the C4 Head of Financial Services in drafting and implementing engagement plans to effect policy change.
  • Supporting  design and implementation of Prosperity Team Learning and Development Plan.
  • Arranging logistics for internal and external meetings and events, participating in meetings with senior partners and recording outcomes.
  • Supporting Prosperity team financial administration as required, using FCDO systems.
  • Supporting delivery of the Economic and Financial Dialogue between Brazil and the UK.
  • Supporting the DIT Financial Services Team with commercial engagement when necessary.

You will be required to build a strong network of contacts of UK and Brazilian government, regulators and companies that will allow you to understand and influence the direction of economic reform in Brazil. You will need strong communication skills and a high level of emotional intelligence that will allow you to pitch your approaches appropriately. This position will see you exposed to Ministers and CEOs of companies - a high level of resilience and professionalism are essential.

In order to be successful you will work closely alongside commercial colleagues to identify regulatory and policy challenges to the business environment faced by UK companies in Brazil, which will periodically form the basis of the Economic and Financial Dialogue (EFD), the most senior economic dialogue between the UK and Brazil. You will be a key part of the team organising the EFD within the network.

You will work closely with the wider Financial Services team including Prosperity Fund Programme teams and you will be directly supported by the Head of Financial Services (based in Sao Paulo) and an intern whom you will manage.

The position will suit an energetic, motivated self-starter with an interest in the sector and an eye for detail. It will require a positive and proactive attitude that thinks in terms of opportunities. It also requires deep reading.

  • Should be a proactive and creative self-starter with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to learn quickly. 
  • Able to deliver high-quality outcomes in a fast-paced work environment delivering to deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills in English and Portuguese.
  • Computer literate, working with Microsoft Windows and able to manage information effectively with available computer systems.
  • Experience/ knowledge of working in a public policy environment.
  • Experience/ knowledge of working with Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office systems.
