Main Purpose of Job:

The British Ambassador’s Residence has an excellent team of staff responsible for the well-being and entertainment of all guests within the Residence.  It involves a vast programme of events and visits that requires the utmost professional team to aid in this essential part of Diplomatic life. The Pantry Assistant is an important position within this highly effective team and reports directly to the Head Housemaid.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Cleaning to an exemplary standard of:

  • Butler’s Pantry. Daily light duties and weekly scheduled heavier duties
  • All dishes used in the course of events, including china, glass and silver.
  • All equipment and accessories; fridge/freezer, microwaves, dishwasher and sink areas. They must be kept to high hygienic standards beyond the normal certification.
  • Removal of trash, compost, recycling bottles and cardboard (flattened and packed)
  • Floors a minimum of twice daily, more if required. All surfaces, inside and out.
  • Other duties as directed by the Head Housemaid, Butler or Residence Manager including vacuuming, mirrors and Ambassador library and representational rooms
  • Must be dependable with a strong work ethic. 
  • Applicants must also have a willingness to work overtime on an as needed basis.
  • Scheduling flexibility is a must, as the position may require evenings and weekends.
  • The ability to follow direction exactly and be willing to take on any task.

Under US State Department requirements, the UK Government in the US may only employ, as non-diplomatic staff, persons who are US citizens, US Permanent Residents, A and NATO visa holders with EAD cards, and L2 visa holders with an up-to-date I-94 form.

  • The ability to work under your own initiative in slower business periods.
  • People skills and the ability to work well as part of a close team are extremely important.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs, and perform occasional manual labour.
