Main Purpose of the Job:

Support for implementing the Nigeria network’s strategic Prosperity objectives through policy advocacy with state governments, business and civil society.  Lead on communications and social media work; event and visit preparation, working closely with other members of the joint DFID-DIT-FCO Nigeria Prosperity Team, including the Prosperity Fund.


Roles and responsibilities:


The British Deputy High Commission in Lagos is recruiting for a Prosperity Officer. 


The successful candidate will work with colleagues from the Department for International Development (DFID), Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and Department for International Trade (DIT) teams in Lagos and Abuja on mutual prosperity issues.  He/she will report to the Head of Prosperity based in Lagos.

 

This will be an interesting job. The prosperity partnership with Nigeria is important for the UK.  Not only is Nigeria Africa’s largest economy, it also has long-established cultural and commercial links with the UK, and the UK is a major development partner for promoting growth and poverty reduction. The UK is expanding the joint prosperity team to support Nigeria’s efforts to deliver on its huge long-term economic potential.  The successful candidate will be comfortable handling a range of responsibilities.

 

Key elements of the role are to:

  • Prepare and implement events, projects and visit programmes for the Prosperity team, working closely with the Head of Prosperity in Lagos. 
  • Develop communications material (narrative and core script) and social media presence for the FCO Prosperity and Prosperity Fund team, consulting and working with the Post communications, DIT / GREAT communications and DFID communications colleagues, as necessary. 
  • Support the Prosperity team through identifying relevant trending issues in traditional and social media.  Advise on and develop engagement and advocacy with key decision-makers:
  • Develop and implement knowledge management systems to enable the efficient circulation of information around the prosperity team, including contact management systems:
  • Support the Head of Prosperity on managing the team.

  

There will be opportunities to travel in Nigeria.  The team is large, diverse, friendly and mutually supportive.  We are keen to accommodate work-life balance wherever possible and there will be some opportunity for working from home.

  • Bachelors Level qualification in Economics, Business Studies or equivalent Social Sciences; OR Media Studies and Communications, provided that a candidate can also demonstrate an understanding of economic and business issues.
  • Good organisational skills:  ability to organise events and visit programmes with limited supervision.
  • Right to work in Nigeria
  • Experience of working in private sector business or marketing/PR company.
