The British Embassy Riyadh has a vacancy for a Maintenance Technician (Electrician/ HVAC) under the Technical Works Group (TWG) on a fixed term contract of two (2) years.

The jobholder will be responsible for all routine maintenance, repair, and minor work projects on the British Embassy estate in Riyadh, working as part of small team of directly employed technicians and with local contractors to ensure that work is delivered to the required standards and following relevant health and safety practices. 

 

Duties and responsibilities:

- Carry out preventive maintenance tasks for essential building services, plant, and equipment including:

  • LV electrical installation and distribution
  • AC package units, split units, chilled water, air handling and fan coil units.
  • Fire protection
  • Water services
  • Swimming pools and associated treatment plant
  • Security control gate, vehicle barriers

- Completion of minor work projects according to technical discipline under the direction of the Technical Works Supervisor (TWS).

- Work within a small team of technicians on day-to-day basis, ensuring that the maintenance programme is kept up to date.

The above list is not exhaustive and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required.

Eligibility:

The position is available to Saudi nationals and to current holders of valid Saudi residence permits or transferable iqama. The successful candidate will be required to transfer their sponsorship to the British Embassy.

  • Relevant experience in electrical and/or AC installation in a commercial environment, ideally for at least five (5) years.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken. Able to express ideas and messages clearly.
  • Ability to manage day-to-day maintenance and support requests and other additional tasks.
  • Team player who is also capable of working on their own initiative.
  • Strong customer focus and ability to deliver quality service.
  • Good organisational skills and flexibility to manage and prioritise tasks.
  • Courtesy and consideration in dealing with staff and other customers. Able to present a professional image of self and the Embassy.
  • Good IT and computer skills. Ability to use MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams).
  • Holds a recognised trade qualification (technical trade certificate or diploma), ideally in Electrical, Refrigeration, HVAC, or Civil Technology.
  • Arabic and/ or Urdu language skills.

Monthly salary details:

  • Base Salary - SAR 4,868
  • Housing Allowance - SAR 1,217 (subject to eligibility)*
  • Travel Allowance - SAR 400 (subject to eligibility)*
  • Total - SAR 6,485 

*Allowances are not payable to staff who receive official provision for such expenditure in some other form. Spouses/ Dependents of UKBS officers working at the Embassy are not eligible to Housing or Travel Allowance.

No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

This position is full-time, based on 48 hours per week. Normal working hours for this role are from 08:00 to 16:00 from Sunday to Thursday and from 07:00 to 11:00 on Friday. The successful candidate should also be flexible in their approach to hours worked as these will also be dictated by operational needs and may involve working out of hours.

The successful candidate will be subject to a 90-day probationary period.

The start date mentioned in the advert is a tentative start date and the successful candidate will be required to undergo security-vetting procedures.  Any offer of employment will be subject to the candidate achieving suitable clearances and reference checks.

The security clearance process includes checks available in country and in the UK, dependant on the security level required for the role and the candidates profile and UK footprint.
