Political

The jobholder will be a core member of the Political and Press Team.  They will provide general political analysis to the embassy, support delivery of visits and will have a specific lead focus on developing the Embassy’s engagement with parliament and civil society. They will support the Political Team in delivery of the Women Peace and Security Agenda and will work alongside the Programme Manager to ensure effective delivery of the Embassy’s programme funds. The jobholder will be expected to develop and manage a network of personal contacts in Rangoon, Naypyitaw and states/regions.

 

  • Provide timely and accurate reporting and analysis on political developments. Develop a wide-ranging personal network of contacts with civil society, parliamentarians, political parties and other organisations to help inform proactive and independent analysis.
  • Support the delivery of visits and regional programmes, including ad hoc interpretation.
  • Work with the Programme Administrator to oversee delivery of programme funds. Work with potential implementers to develop and refine new ideas and project proposals and provide monitoring and evaluation of existing portfolio.

 

The exact portfolio is flexible and will depend on the skills and experience of the jobholder and the requirements of the political team.

  • Strong Burmese and English language skills, both written and spoken
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively to staff and external parties
  • Understanding of the wider political & economic context in Myanmar
  • Personal drive and the ability to be a self-starter as well as a team player
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

This is a full-time appointment. Some evening and weekend work may be required.

 

The British Embassy Rangoon offers a competitive remuneration package, including salary, benefits, leave entitlement of 22 days per annum (calculated in pro rata).
