Who are we:

The British Embassy in Slovakia is part of a worldwide network representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a Digital Communications Officer to join our team.

Why should you apply:

The main purpose of the job is to plan, create, post/publish, administer, and evaluate content for the Embassy’s digital channels – GOV.UK, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram (later possibly expanding to e.g., LinkedIn, Threads).

What will you be expected to achieve:

  • Proactively identifying opportunities for UK social media activity
  • Creating impactful and engaging digital content for our social media channels.
  • Liaise with colleagues and external stakeholders to produce digital campaigns.
  • Be confident in writing and editing text/posts in Slovak and English.
  • Assess impact of social media activity using key performance indicators, monitoring visitor statistics, reach, engagement, followers’ growth, etc. and use data to suggest improvement.
  • Create presentations, invitations, social media visuals, videos.
  • Advise the Ambassador/colleagues on social media best practice, supporting their social media activity on Embassy channels.
  • Implement FCDO and other UK government departments (e.g., No 10) digital campaigns.
  • Help Senior Communications & Political Officer with public/commercial diplomacy activities.
  • Help with media monitoring, media enquiries and arranging media engagements.
  • Provide support to wider Political team as required
  • University degree;
  • Excellent command of English and Slovak. Editorial skills, ability to write compellingly online for different target audiences;
  • Experience in digital marketing / digital comms, engaging online audiences and writing for the web;
  • Experience in video production, operating a camera (or a camera app) and microphone, editing videos (Adobe suite / Final Cut Pro / DaVinci Resolve), editing graphics and graphic design (Canva / Adobe Photoshop / alternatives), subtitling; autocue;
  • Experience with content management systems (Facebook Manager, Creator Studio, Hootsuite, etc.), social media, digital analytics, etc.;
  • Awareness of new digital trends and practical experience in using digital tools;
  • A team player able to work independently and flexibly, and able to deliver under tight deadlines and/or with limited resources;
  • Willingness to travel occasionally.
  • Degree or previous experience in communications, marketing or digital marketing;
  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience (communications, public diplomacy, content production, graphic design, or marketing).

This is a full-time, fixed term position for 12 months with the possibility of extension, with a probation period of 3 months. 

The monthly salary for this position is € 1656 gross, payable 13 times a year.

The successful candidate/s will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance.

All applicants should have the right to live and work in Slovakia. The British Embassy does not sponsor for work permits.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Slovakia are subject to terms and conditions of service according to Slovak Labour Law.

Visa / Passport requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Slovakia and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
