Science and Innovation

The British Embassy in Lithuania is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a Science and Innovation Attaché for the Political Department.

Main purpose of the job:

For the duration of the UK negotiations to leave the EU, build and develop bilateral relationships between Estonia (30%), Latvia (30%) and Lithuania (30%) and the UK Ministries, academic institutions and organisations with an interest in science and innovation.

Provide insight into Baltic nations’ reactions to UK science related exit objectives and react on request on Baltic science exit objectives.

Contribute to ongoing UK economic growth and a strong post-negotiation bilateral relationship by initiating mutually beneficial science and innovation collaboration between the UK and Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Role will cover these 3 countries so travel expected to be extensive.

Roles and responsibilities:

Building Influence

Undertake a comprehensive stakeholder/sectoral mapping exercise to build a wide network of contacts in government, business, universities and public research organisations in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, establishing the UK as a favoured science and innovation partner to support the Science & Innovation Network’s overarching objectives.

Bilateral

Monitor and respond to developments in science and innovation policies and programmes in the Baltic states. Provide timely and concise reports on key developments to UK government departments and other stakeholders.

Define future bilateral relationship in the science and innovation in the Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania working with SIN Regional Manager and political team of the Embassy.

 

Corporate Responsibility
Support the wider work in the Embassy and SIN NBN Regional Manager including providing surge capacity and engaging in corporate activities.

 

  • Good communication in English and Lithuanian languages both oral and written (independent user);
  • University degree in Science or Engineering field OR 3 years of relevant work experience in science, innovation and/or government policy;
  • A self-starter, with the ability to organise self and work effectively;   
  • Ability to work effectively and supportively on shared objectives with colleagues;
  • Networking skills;
  • Understand and focus on customer needs;

 

  • Strong intercultural skills;
  • Good IT skills;
  • Flexibility to travel domestically, and internationally.

This is a fixed-term contract of 24 months with possibility of renewal.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check and security clearance.
