The British Embassy in Paris is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. It is also part of the UK’s France Network (including offices in Lyon, Bordeaux and Marseilles and representation to international organisations in Paris (OECD and UNESCO) and Strasbourg (CoE).

The British Embassy is currently looking for an Accounts Assistant to integrate the Corporate Services team. The purpose of this role is to provide support in various accounting and “Purchase to Pay” (PTP) tasks for the France Network.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Deal with the weekly payment registers reviewing and resolving queries;

  • Make bank payments to suppliers and staff;

  • Complete the payroll accounting;

  • Complete social charges accounting;

  • Complete luncheon vouchers accounting;

  • Complete Debit Memo requests;

  • Complete Non Discretionary Payment Requests and Emergency Payment Requests;

  • Prepare Manual Invoice Requests when required;

  • Prepare OGD reports;

  • Trouble shoot and deal with staff/supplier enquiries concerning payment of invoices/claims;

  • Cover for other members of the corporate team as required;

  • Other Ad-hoc tasks if role needs to evolve.



  • Accounting experience: knowledge of general accounting practices;

  • Excellent command of verbal and written English and French;

  • Approachable, empathetic with very strong customer care skills;

  • A self starter that can work well both individually and in a team;

  • Strong analytical and judgemental skills;

  • Good self management and organisational skills with an ability to plan and prioritise; effectively with competing workload under pressure;

  • IT proficiency – Using MS Office (especially Excel);

  • Experience working in an international/multilateral environment;

  • Accounts or payroll experience.





  • 5 years’ experience in payroll or accounting;
  • Professional experience in France.

This is a part-time and fixed-term contract of 18 months.

All appointments are subject to professional background check satisfactory security clearance.
