View Vacancy - MYR - Consular Assistant, A1(L) (Part-Time)
The Consular Section in Rangoon provides consular assistance, advice and notarial services to British Nationals in Burma. This is a key supporting role. The successful applicant’s responsibilities will include that of office manager and providing administrative support to the UK based VC. The successful applicant will assist on straight forward assistance cases. These can include hospitalisations, detentions, the death of British national and issues around mental health problems. They will also need to engage with Burmese government officials as well as other partners and stakeholders. There will be occasional travel within Burma. As a majority of our customers are British Nationals and the successful applicant will need to frequently interact with the Burmese authorities, a high degree of fluency in English and Burmese (both written and spoken) are essential
Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:
Office Management and administrative support to the UK Based VC
- Contacts list kept up to date
- Key information for customers up-to-date
- Up-dating waiting room literature
- Logistical support for outreach activity (flights, transport)
Consular Assistance to distressed British nationals:
- Provide support by arranging and on occasion accompanying Vice Consul on consular visits including to prisons, detention centres and hospitals
- Engaging with local Burmese officials including police, immigration officers.
- Assisting with translations and interpretations
Crisis Preparedness:
- The job holder will be a member of crisis training and exercising
- Contribute to consular team planning
- Provide first class consular assistance to affected British Nationals in a crisis
- Language requirement: Fluent in English and Burmese, both written and spoken
- Administrative skill
- Communication skill
- IT skill
- Experience of working in a customer service role
