View Vacancy - AUS (Melbourne) - Head of Investment (VIC, SA, TAS), C4 (L)
The purpose of this job is to support the UK Government’s objectives in Australia by leading, developing and delivering investment services for growing and expanding companies from the states of Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania, through business set-up assistance, sectoral and locational guidance and expansion support to both new and existing, high-value, Australian businesses to fast-track the delivery of successful UK footprints.
This exciting, outward facing role requires the identification of large and scalable, innovative Australian enterprises with high-growth foreign direct investor (FDI) potential. It involves formulating and executing strategies aimed at generating leads for FDI attraction from the VIC, SA and TAS regions of Australia and requires the jobholder to have a broad knowledge of industry sectors as well as state and federal economic policy. The role also requires liaison with HQ and marketing teams on high value campaign (HVC) work in some key sectors. The role will require attendance and presentations at events and relationship building at certain industry forums, and a require an ability to communicate effectively. Knowledge of industry multipliers and partners to actively support and leverage outcomes will be viewed favourably. The role will include an element of travel to visit FDIs, as well as for learning and development. 25%
This role requires working with prospect and active FDIs and influencing their internal decision-making processes to secure newly ‘landed’ investments/expansions in the UK evidenced by jobs and capital expenditure; through key account management, project management, relationship management, and administration through the ‘datahub’ portal. The role requires collaboration through a virtual team structure in Australia and New Zealand with team colleagues based in Perth, Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane and Auckland. And also with UK based sector colleagues, UK regional teams, and a centralised investment services team which supports with UK economic, industrial and consumer research. 50%
This role involves the management of one direct line-report in Melbourne whom contributes to the overall target (as well as any temporary interns that may be recruited). A management function will also require sound administration and accurate, budgeting and forecasting in line with value for money. 20%
The role will include some strategic support and assistance to the broader DIT team (including with trade exports colleagues), the British Consulate-General staff in Melbourne and the wider Australia Network. 5%
- Bachelors degree (or equivalent) in an appropriate field
- A minimum of five years’ work experience in business, ideally in an international & B2B context, or in business development.
- Ability to develop and maintain networks with senior decision makers
- Strong inter-personal networking, presentation and communication skills
- Good knowledge of the Australian business environment
- Ability to deliver to ambitious targets and outcomes
- Strong research and analytical skills
- IT literate
- Some knowledge of the UK’s business environment, and some regional centres of the UK.
- Some knowledge of the processes involved in overseas company expansions (foreign direct investment).
- Some knowledge of investment decision processes.
Salary is at AU$ 98,663 per annum (paid out monthly), calculated pro-rata, plus 11% superannuation.
Initial appointment is for two years. The formal job description may be subject to amendment in the future.
