View Vacancy - NZW - Communications and Events Officer, A2 (L)
The British High Commission in Wellington is part of a world-wide network of 270 Posts, representing British interests overseas. We are looking to recruit for a permanent position beginning 1 August 2017.
The successful applicant will play a key role in the political and communications team at the British High Commission, ensuring that our external communications are professional and best reflect UK interests and policy priorities. You will be expected to engage with all forms of media, including TV, print, radio and digital, to advance the High Commission’s work. Planning and delivery of modern communications campaigns and media events are all a key part of the job. The British High Commission actively promotes continuous personal development and the job holder will have access to a full range of learning and development opportunities including through the UK’s recently established Diplomatic Academy.
Main duties and responsibilities:
Engagement with all forms of media – TV, print, radio and digital to promote British interests in New Zealand including by:
- Delivering sophisticated, modern communications campaigns
- Planning and production of digital media (podcasts, video, live-streams)
- Web editing for GOV.UK
- Planning and delivering events where deemed effective as part of campaigns
- Evaluation and reporting on the effectiveness of our comms efforts
- Managing budgets effectively
- Liaising with all sections of the British High Commission to spot opportunities to amplify UK government policy priorities
- An understanding of the media scene in New Zealand
- Experience of developing and delivering communications campaigns and events
- Familiarity with digital and social media, willingness to learn new skills (experience in digital production or Adobe Cloud software will be preferred)
- Excellent interpersonal skills, and able to treat others with respect and courtesy regardless of work pressures
- Able to work effectively and supportively with colleagues, both individually and in teams
- Excellent time management skills
- Flexibility to meet the demands of a varied work schedule and contribute to the wider work of the British High Commission
- Able to handle RSVP processes efficiently
- Experience managing budgets
- Able to meet the British High Commission’s security requirements and act with discretion at all times
The salary for this position on a Full Time Equivalent (FTE) basis is NZ$57,000 per annum, paid out monthly plus up to 5% superannuation subsidy on a $ for $ basis.
The position is advertised on a permanent contract.
Appointment is subject to achieving and maintaining a clean New Zealand Police records check and UK security clearance.
Appointment is subject to a 90 day trial period pursuant to section 67A of the Employment Relations Act 2000.
Open to New Zealand citizens, permanent residents, and partners/dependents of UK-based diplomatic staff currently posted in New Zealand. Employment offers are subject to successful clearance of pre-employment checks. No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position. Candidates must have or be able to obtain work authorisation for New Zealand in order to apply.
Staff recruited locally by the High Commission is subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local New Zealand employment law.
