The British Embassy, Israel has vacancy for a Temporary Community Manager, UK Israel Tech Hub (Maternity Leave Cover), Grade – A2 (L).

Overview of the role:

This is an excellent opportunity for an energetic and highly-motivated self-starter to join a strong operational unit and take the lead role on building and managing the UK Israel Tech Hub’s cross sector community, including public-facing duties as well as curation of engaging content. This position is an ideal platform to develop community management skills and experience in a dynamic team focused on a top priority of the Embassy – using public diplomacy to position the UK as a partner of choice for Israel in technology.

The successful candidate will report to the Hub’s Deputy Director and work as an integral part of the Hub’s 3-person Operations Unit consisting of two Programme Managers and a Community Manager. While each team member is focused on different aspects of the Hub’s operations, the team works as a cohesive unit to deliver on the Hub’s ambitious activities, led by the Sector Managers.

The Tech Hub are currently recruiting two positions, this position, in addition to a Programme Manager advertised on the British Embassy’s website. Please note the below points if you would like to apply for both positions:

About the UK Israel Tech Hub:

The UKITH helps drive economic growth in both countries by helping British and Israeli companies partner in technology and innovation. The goal is to create partnerships in which British companies help Israeli innovation go global, and Israeli innovation gives British companies a global competitive edge.

The UKITH was launched in October 2011 at the British Embassy Israel, following an agreement between Prime Ministers Cameron and Netanyahu to build a UK-Israel partnership in technology. The Hub is a high-profile successful pilot for the UK government aimed at developing new methods of commercial diplomacy and prides itself on becoming a resident expert on the Israeli market for the benefit of UK companies seeking innovation. To date the Hub has facilitated over 200 innovation partnerships worth over GBP 1B to the UK economy.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Initiate, cultivate, and strengthen Tech Hub community & strategic contacts relationships both across Hub Sectors as well as in the broader tech ecosystem.
  • Liaison with Embassy’s Comms team as the Hub’s Point of Contact. Identify media & exposure opportunities within Hub activities & work with Comms to build Hub media strategies. Assist in managing curation of social and viral content and the current Hub website.
  • Represent the Hub publicly at events, and within the community manager’s ecosystem to strengthen the Hub’s positioning, by mapping and building relationships with relevant partners in the ecosystem for community engagements.
  • Lead on development of the new prosperity website alongside the Comms department and Prosperity team. Curate and upload hub items for the website.
  • Work alongside Sector & Programme Managers to curate and execute programmes by leveraging the Hub community - including securing venues & cultural elements for external visits.
  • Manage Venture Capital (VC) Club activity, acting as a primary point of contact for Israeli members of the club. Initiate & maintain strong relationships with VCs in the Israeli ecosystem. Manage and plan VC Club activities, working in conjunction with the UK Partnerships manager.
  • Lead on production of UK-Israel 10 year Impact/Economic Report, working with departments across the Embassy.
  • Support operations & logistics around Hub activities, across all sectors, as needed & according to capacity.
  • Work with the team’s budget throughout the financial year, track and report financial activity, and ensure timely incomes and expenditures.

Essential:

  • Fluent communication skills in English (reading, writing and speaking).
  • At least two years of experience in stakeholder/partnerships management, programme management, community building, and/or social media management.
  • Excellent and proven writing and research skills in English.
  • Experience in organising events or complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • Proven high level organisational and administrative skills and great attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and team working skills, as well as confidence liaising with stakeholders of vast levels of seniority.
  • Strong IT skills including Office, Google Docs, Project management tools, community building tools and CRM.

Skills and Attributes:

  • A self-starter attitude; initiative and creativity, “out of the box” thinking approach.
  • A positive, energetic, optimistic attitude, and not afraid to roll up your sleeves.
  • Excellent team player, able to interact cross-functionally and remotely at different levels and adapt to the cultural nuances between different audiences in business both in Israel and the UK.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks, in a “start-up environment”.

Desirable:

  • Business proposals or grant writing experience.
  • Experience in technology and/or business.
  • A strong interest in Israeli innovation. Prior knowledge of the Israeli tech ecosystem, including start-ups, investment community, accelerator/incubator programmes, industry experts and emerging trends.
  • Knowledge of the UK market, companies and tech ecosystem.
  • Arabic language skills.

Working Hours and Remuneration:

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including the non-negotiable salary of NIS 10,300 per month plus transport allowance.

This position is offered on a Full Time, Temporary (Maternity Leave Cover) contract for four (4) months with a possibility of short extension. The successful candidate will be on a one-month probationary period. 

Parking facilities are not provided nor paid for by the Embassy. No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

Normal working hours are Monday to Thursday 8:00-16:00 and Friday 8:00-13:30 for a total of 37.5 weekly.

Flexibility will be required, including occasional evening events, some travel locally and occasional travel to the UK.
