Main purpose of job:

The jobholder will support the Vietnam Network’s IT systems, telephone, and other communications systems. The successful candidate will have an important role helping design and implement IT policies, ensuring compliance by users with relevant rules and best practice, ensuring business resilience and continuity, regular maintenance and repairs and developing IT skills of staff and how they can best use the technology to improve business outcomes.

Roles and responsibilities: 

  • Assist in the design and implementation of IT, telephony and VTC policies in Ho Chi Minh Post.

  • Assist in communication and operational implementation of IT services with guidance from FCO Services colleagues in the region and UK.

  • Point of contact for users of the UK Government’s main computer system in Ho Chi Minh Post, working with users and the central helpdesk to prioritise and respond to requests for help and resolve any issues with the full range official computer, telephone or VTC systems.

  • Assist ITSO in providing policy advice and support implementation of IT policies to ensure resilience and business continuity.

  • Ensuring compliance of users with relevant operational and security rules and procedures.

  • Working as part of the Security Team within the Embassy to ensure IT assets are secure.

  • Training and mentoring staff on how to best utilise computer, telephony and VTC systems.

  • Maintaining inventories and ensuring Security Operating Procedures are understood and enacted.  

  • Collaborating with local suppliers with guidance from ITSO to ensure value for money and a high quality of service

  • Assist the ITSO in making effective use of IT budgets through local knowledge.

  • Providing cover for the ITSO in Hanoi for his/ her extended leave.

  • Other associated activities as required.

  • Strong IT skills (hardware, software and services) and experience in IT support, with particular emphasis on computers but telephony and VTC technology also preferable.
  • Excellent problem solving and customer service skills.
  • Flexibility, personal resilience and capable of solving problems.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Must be able to travel for short periods to Hanoi.

The British Consulate-General supports and promotes flexible working.  The standard working hours for the BHC are 8:45am to 5:00pm (Mon-Thurs) and (08:45-15:00) Fri. We are happy to offer a variety of flexible working patterns, including non-standard working hours, working remotely or working compressed hours. However, due to the nature of the role, there will be a requirement for occasional out of hours work around events and visits. Time off in lieu can be offered to make up for out of hours work.
