The United Kingdom’s Joint Delegation to NATO is the vital link between the UK Government and the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation. Its principal roles are to promote British interests in NATO and to keep UK Ministers and Government Departments informed about NATO discussions and is now looking for a Deputy Business Manager for the UK Delegation to NATO in Brussels (UKDEL).

The jobholder will be based within the Business Management Team. As one of the two Deputy Team Leaders, the main aspects of the job are to become the focal point for all visits to NATO by UK Ministers and their teams; provide budgetary support to the delegation; provide induction support to new members of staff as well as supporting the Team Leader in settling into the Delegations offices in the New NATO Headquarters.

The role would suit a proactive individual with experience in team support and willingness to take on the challenge and opportunity of living and working in another country.

Main Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Visits Officer – organise five logistical and bilateral programmes for the Foreign and Defence Ministers supporting the UK’s input to Ministerial meetings to the Minister’s satisfaction including the upcoming Summit to be held in Brussels;

  • Produce a monthly forecast and outturn for Deputy Head of Mission and Team Leaders, highlighting under- and overspend to ensure year-end allocation is met, including long term four year forecast;
  • Support the Team Leader in managing the maintenance of the new Delegation Space;

  • Supporting the Team Leader in settling into the Delegations offices in the New NATO Headquarters.

  • Accuracy and attention to detail;

  • Ability to work in a team;

  • Fluent written and spoken English;

  • Proven IT skills, in particular experience of Microsoft Office and Excel;

  • Line Management experience;

  • Ability to occasionally work extended hours during peak periods, including in the run-up and during Ministerial meetings and Summits;

  • A background in corporate services or facilities management.
  • Experience in organising of events;
  • Working knowledge of French.

Terms and conditions

This is a full-time, fixed term contract, for 5 working days (36.25 hours net) per week.

This position will be filled on a "replacement contract" to cover a leave of absence. It is not clear when the staff member will return, however this could be the beginning of Summer 2018. This is only a guide and any possible earlier return or extension to this date would be discussed with the successful candidate.

The monthly salary for this position is €3,865.40 B3 (L) level (The British Diplomatic Missions in Belgium salaries are not subject to annual indexation).

Please note that Belgian nationals will be paid their salary gross and are expected to comply with their tax obligations through completion of a tax return to the Belgian authorities. Non-Belgian nationals will receive their salary net, minus the deduction of an equivalent level of Belgian tax retained at source. Further information on this will be given to candidates during the recruitment process.

The successful candidates will be subject to professional background checks and security clearance.

Staff recruited locally by the British Diplomatic Missions in Belgium are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Belgian employment law.
