Main purpose of job

This is a role in the busy and high-profile communications department of the British Embassy in Washington. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to help design and create a new planning function with the embassy – helping set out the priorities for UK communications in the US and coordinating external engagement activity across the US. With a mixture of comms, analysis and project management this role will be challenging but rewarding and a great opportunity to develop communications experience. The post holder will spend 75% of their time overseeing the internal network digital and external engagement grid, CRM management , filing of incoming post, and coordination of meetings. The post holder will spend 25% of their time coordinating meetings and data between the US network, planners in London, and provide day-to-day administrative support. The British Embassy in Washington will be committed to developing and supporting the successful candidate.


Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead on all administrative duties related to an engagement grid and CRM implementation across the US network.
  • Schedule and manage weekly meetings and network correspondence related to weekly external engagement activity and relevant communications, including overseeing the Weekly Note.
  • Support the Ambassador’s office on scheduling, planning external engagement, and provide media support.
  • Manage the routine planning of digital activity and the digital grid throughout the US network.
  • Oversee the filing of incoming correspondence.
  • Communicate with FCDO communications teams and planners in in London to coordinate communications, media, and external engagement efforts.
  • Support directly the Head of Communications and Strategic Communications and Public Diplomacy Officer, and the public diplomacy and communications team in day-to-day administrative support.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Experience with project management and administrative support;
  • Proven ability to complete multiple tasks and high volume of work on deadline in a fast-paced work environment;
  • Experience with CRM and related data-management systems;
  • Attention to detail and ability to edit and proofread;
  • Demonstrated ability to take control and follow through on assigned tasks with limited supervision;
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office software.



Language: English

Level of language required: Fluent in English; Strong written and verbal English communication skills required

Working patterns

 Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, job will be remote to start with option to work flexibly from the office as capacity allows until broader return-to-work guidance is issued

  • Full-time work schedule required (9:00am-5:30pm)
  • Upon a return-to-work scenario, position would have flexibility to occasionally work from home pending approval from line manager.
