The British Embassy Vilnius is a professional, friendly and inclusive team, which supports the development and wellbeing of all its staff members, and we are looking to recruit a Head of Russian Media Engagement.

The successful candidate will act as Russian Media Engagement Lead for the British Embassy Vilnius’s Russian-language Media Hub, reporting into British Embassy Moscow.

They will leverage relationships with Russian media across Russia and the Baltic states, to provide advice and insight on the current media landscape. They will draw on their understanding of communications impact and audiences to advise on and oversee Russian-language communication campaigns across a variety of media.

Working to the UK Head of Communications, British Embassy Moscow, the jobholder will be expected to:

1.      Develop and manage positive relationships with Russian-language media in Russia, Lithuania and the Baltic region.

2.      Confidently advise seniors, including the Ambassador, on the Russian-language media landscape and audience dynamics.

3.      Respond to media enquiries and provide briefing to journalists, in line with UK policies.

4.      Support the development of FCDO communications campaigns, particularly those delivered through social media.

5.      Oversee the creation and dissemination of social media products, and regular media monitoring products, by the team (line management) and by colleagues in London.

6.      Engage proactively with colleagues across the Eastern Europe and Central Asia network to coordinate activity and to deliver global communications projects.

This is a dynamic and evolving role, located in the British Embassy Vilnius alongside a small team, but reporting in to the British Embassy Moscow. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate resilience, a strong understanding of dynamics in Russian-language media, and the ability to maintain strong networks in a rapidly changing environment.

  • Proficiency at C1 level in English and Russian according to CEFR Framework*
  • Candidates should have experience in engaging with Russian-language media, either in Russia or in the Eastern European neighbourhood
  • Experience leading a team
  • Experience working in Press or Public Affairs for an international organisation or government
