Main purpose of job:

We are looking for a dynamic, high-calibre colleague to join an experienced team that leads on the India- UK inward investment relationship. The UK is a preferred inward investment destination for Indian companies- we need a colleague who will help us retain this position and play a role in the development of our future strategy.

Your role will be to individually contribute and support Inward Investment initiatives including:

  • Promoting the UK as the ideal destination for inward investment to Indian companies in Mumbai.
  • Coordinating key account management of important Indian businesses working closely with team members.
  • Working with colleagues to support pipeline building activity in Gujarat, wider Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Goa.
  • Maintain relationships with Industry Associations / commercial partners . This includes conducting and participating in events to promote Inward Investment into the UK.
  • Ongoing client relationship/database management and performance reporting via DBT’s internal platforms (Data Hub/ Data Workspace).

You will be expected to develop and support the delivery of  a strong pipeline of current and future investment projects and contribute to the wider DBT / UK in India efforts across a range of corporate objectives. You will be supported with opportunities to get the right learning and development, career development and opportunities to travel.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve:

Investment Success (50%): To promote the UK as the ideal investment destination for potential and existing Indian investors and to work with them to set up and expand operations in the UK. Deliver and support team to achieve its national  FDI target, ensure a healthy pipeline of future investment projects is developed and projects database is managed accurately. This  will also entail desk research and  conducting lead generation activities. Staff could be required for coverage depending on the requirements of the team.

Events and Visits (30%): Support the regional and national team to develop new pipeline and manage existing investor relationships leveraging events and visits. Support all visits from UK visitors including Ministerial visits. Coordinate closely with team members towards effective planning of marketing events/ roundtables/ outreaches including all logistical arrangements and preparing of briefing documents. Vendor and budget management responsibilities for efficient delivery of investment campaign activities.

Stakeholder Management (10%): Build strong links to, and work in partnership with, the UK Government’s investment partners and multipliers in India and the UK (regions, HQ, commercial partners)  to ensure investors are provided with a seamless end-to-end service which consistently leads to investment successes in the UK

Strategic Relationship Management (10%): Support the team to maintain data related to relationships with existing/potential high value investors with an objective to deliver high economic impact FDI project wins.

Resources managed (staff and expenditure): 

To be accountable and responsible for personal and team finances through the year. No line management is required for the role.

The British High Commission Network in India provides ample L&D opportunities to its staff to grow in their professional journey. The 70/20/10 learning, and development model is applied, with both internal and formal opportunities readily available.

In addition, DBT provides opportunity for Inward Investment related training to build understanding of FDI/ the UK market.

Qualifications:

Graduate/Post Graduate in Business Management or equivalent.

Experience: At least 3-4 years of relevant professional experience of working in FDI attraction /Trade & Investment/ Business Development/ program delivery in either public/ private sector

Skills:

  • Relationship management - ability to read situations and modify behaviour to build quality, diverse relationships.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong administrative skills.
  • Strong skills in using Microsoft Office tools.

Language Requirements:

  • Proficient in English Language both Spoken and Written.

Desirable:   

  • An understanding of the role of governments and private sector in attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).
  • Knowledge of factors that influence trade, investments, expansion decisions, and value proposition for investors.
  • Experience in using business and web-based tools (CRM Databases, Financial and FDI databases) for FDI promotion, tracking and data management.
  • Experience of budget monitoring.

For other than BHC Candidates, salary will be all-inclusive of INR 75,359 per month plus 12% Provident Fund and 6% Superannuation.

Additionally, the BHC offers a great benefits package that includes annual domiciliary medical cover, plus a Group Hospitalisation Scheme with INR 500,000 floater cover for your immediate family which includes self, spouse/partner and children up to an age of 23 years and irrespective of age, only if with, physical or mental disability.

No relocation or any other related costs or assistance will be provided. FCDO does not pay for any travelling, accommodation & relocation expenses incurred and/or accept any financial risk, including cancellation or reschedule costs

Please note - BHC does not deduct tax at source and employees are required to ensure that any requirements of local income-tax law are complied with in full. Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, e.g., some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
