The British Embassy, based in The Hague in the Netherlands, is part of a world-wide network of 230 Diplomatic Posts, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. It is now, due to strong market demand, looking for a Senior Investment Adviser to expand the existing team.

Working for the Department for International Trade, the main purpose of the role is to assist Dutch companies and financial institutions to invest, or increase their investment, in the United Kingdom through providing tailored advice and support.

The Investment Adviser builds a detailed understanding of an investor’s business and its potential UK plans and then, working with UK colleagues, provides market insight and connectivity to allow the business to enter or grow further in the UK. The successful candidate will be responsible for building close relationships with existing investors, as well as identifying potential investors across a range of sectors.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Delivery responsibility for an agreed number of new or additional investments by Dutch companies in the UK through the management of a defined set of existing investors. Responsibility for defined sectors.
  • Delivery responsibility for an agreed number of new or additional investments by Dutch companies in the UK through the development and growth of a pipeline.
  • Developing and organising sector events and campaigns to support meeting the team’s objectives.
  • Maintaining productive relationships with DIT's relevant sector groups in London HQ and across the UK, together with colleagues across the DIT European Network.
  • Experience in a marketing, business development, consultancy or trade/investment promotion discipline and/or a degree in a business related discipline.
  • A self-starter, able to show initiative and work independently and at pace, without losing sight of priorities.
  • Strong team player. In this role, you will be part of a high performing and ambitious team.
  • Excellent IT skills, including the ability to use social media tools to support your activities.
  • Good spoken and written Dutch;
  • Fluent spoken and written English.
  • A good understanding of the UK and Dutch business environment including business drivers.
  • Strong networking skills.
  • Strong account management skills.

The successful candidate will initially be offered a temporary contract of one year at B3 level. The base salary for this position is € 3478 gross per month, based on a working week of 36 hours. In addition, an 8% annual holiday allowance and a monthly travel allowance are payable. The Embassy currently applies a performance based bonus pay model for local staff.

Applicants must be legally entitled to work in The Netherlands. Please note that The Embassy is not a tax withholding employer. Consequently staff members are responsible for paying their own income tax and social security on the gross salary received.

The successful candidate will undergo a professional background check; any job offer is also provisional to a successful security clearance check.
