Chancery

Main purpose of job:

Support the UK Government in monitoring and analysing political developments across Somaliland.

Communicate UK policy and activity to the people of Somaliland.

Lead the delivery of the UK Chevening scholarship programme.

Make logistical arrangements to support the Head of Office and wider UK Somaliland team. 

 

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

Political

Monitor, analyse and help shape political developments in Somaliland.  Develop and maintain an extensive, valuable network of contacts across Somaliland.  Produce timely, concise written reports in English.

Communications

Raise awareness of UK policy and activities and support for them.  Collaborate closely with communications experts across the region and in London.  Develop and implement creative ways to communicate UK messages.

Scholarship

Ensure a high profile for the Chevening scholarship scheme.  Forge productive relationships with regional colleagues and administer the scheme in a way that reinforces its prestige.  Foster a strong alumni network. 

Logistics   

Develop and arrange programmes for senior visitors and British Office colleagues.  Organise events to help support political and economic development in Somaliland.  Pay close attention to detail to ensure the professional execution of UK activity in Somaliland. 

  • At least three years professional experience in a related role. 
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
