View Vacancy - Internship at Public Diplomacy, Digital and Press (CZE18.108)
The British Embassy in Czech Republic is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a pool of 20 interns to offer internships in press, digital communication and public diplomacy, in 2018–9. The internship presents an opportunity to learn about British foreign policy and to contribute to bilateral Czech/British relationships.
Each intern will specialize in at least one of the three main duties and responsibilities. A successful candidate will show aptitude in any of the three areas and at the same time in all skills which are essential on arrival including the required language skills. The desirable skills listed below will further increase candidates’ chances of being offered a place in the internship pool.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist British Embassy in Public Diplomacy projects, including large events (e.g. Queen’s Birthday Party, Christmas Party, British Markets, Open Days) in e.g. creating and maintaining distribution lists, event management support, print and collate documents, follow up by email or phone, identifying suppliers and research support information for procurement bids (e.g. identifying suppliers over internet);
- Assist British Embassy in identifying opportunities for creating digital content for use on Embassy social media channels. This includes Twitter, FB and internet research on various topics related to the UK government, British culture and values; identification of digital influentials (e.g. Twitter), and drafting reports which assess impact of Embassy social media activity and key performance indicators, such as reviewing visitor statistics, reach and participation;
- Assist British Embassy in Press work, such as creating distribution lists, identifying journalists and updating contacts, distribute invitations, provide organisational support to press events, media monitoring and press impact evaluation, conduct research by using the internet (news servers), clippings archives (e.g. Newton Media, Monitora). Summarise clipping content in English, distribute clippings to internal audiences.
- Ability to work independently and flexibly;
- Fluent English and Czech, oral and written.
- Interest in political science, international relations, diplomacy;
- Previous experience organising events.
This is a part-time position for an internship of up to 300 hours.
The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check and security clearance. The successful candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation for the Czech Republic in order to apply.
Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Czech Republic are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Czech Republic employment law.
