The British Embassy in The Hague is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is looking for a Post Security Manager.

Through leading the Embassy’s Security Team the selected candidate will ensure a safe and secure working environment for the staff and visitors to the British Embassy The Hague and British Consulate General in Amsterdam.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Day to day management and motivation of a team of 5 Security Officers (SO)

  • Responsible for line management and training of five Security Officers.
  • Managing the team’s workload with the available personnel.
  • Preparing and adjusting schedules.
  • Motivating and coaching the security team through performance management, monitoring, appraisals and regular 1-2-1’s.

Responsible for ensuring all staff and visitors are safe and secure at the British Embassy The Hague and the Consulate General in Amsterdam

  • Responsibility for the application of security policy released by FCO and the Post Security Committee (PSC) and monitoring compliance of it.
  • Advising the Deputy Head of Mission and Ambassador on security issues relating to the Mission’s staff, information and assets. Identifying changes to the Security Environment and recommending amendments to our procedures and policies.
  • Communicate with other colleagues about threats and actions to manage them. Foster a culture of security consciousness.
  • Act as fire safety manager.

Manage the key external relationships to ensure the Embassy’s security

  • Regular communication with the National Centre for Counter Terrorism (NCTV), diplomatic police, local authorities and other embassies.
  • Manage personnel clearances in liaison with London.
  • Contribute to our crisis preparedness and response.
  • Experience as a security professional, assessing and managing risks and threats.
  • A working knowledge of security techniques and planning.
  • Experience working in an international context, collaborating with people of different nationalities or cultures.
  • Driving License.
  • Experience of managing diverse teams, to ensure delivery of shifting priorities with available resources;
  • Knowledge of the Netherlands.
  • Some Dutch would be desirable but is not a strict requirement.
  • Experience working under pressure, or in short term crisis scenarios.

The successful candidate will initially be offered a one year employment contract at B3 level. The base salary for this position is €3,478 gross per month, based on a working week of 36 hours. In addition, an 8% annual holiday allowance and a monthly travel allowance are payable. The Embassy currently applies a performance based bonus pay model for local staff.

Applicants must be legally entitled to work in The Netherlands. Please note that The Embassy is not a tax withholding employer. Consequently staff members are responsible for paying their own income tax and social security on the gross salary received.

The successful candidate will undergo a professional background check; any job offer is also provisional to a successful security clearance check.
