Immigration Enforcement International (formerly RALON)

Main purpose of job:

The successful candidate will work as part of the Immigration Enforcement International (IEI) team at the British High Commission New Delhi.

IEI form part of the Immigration Enforcement arm of the Home Office within Immigration Intelligence and the Delhi team is responsible for India and Nepal. We work with UK and international law enforcement partners to tackle immigration crime, primarily through preventing the travel of inadequately documented passengers to the UK; enhancing visa decision quality; identifying and tackling underlying criminality and providing intelligence about threats to the UK border.

The successful candidate will need to be proactive as they’ll be required to assess intelligence and conduct research but they will also need to be reactive as they will be expected to deal with live enquiries.

The role requires effective decision making; the ability to analyse complex data and make recommendations based on the conclusions is important.  

A key element of the role will be working with a range of key internal and external partners, including host authorities, airlines and international partners.

The successful candidate will have responsibility for leading on Her Majesty’s Passport Office (HMPO) investigation work that the team conducts.

Roles and responsibilities:

Handling intelligence and official data

Receiving, grading and disseminating intelligence, circulating suspect alerts, contributing to monthly reports, and preparing monthly statistical returns.

Conducting checks against government systems; using information to inform decision making.

Development, research and support of immigration crime investigations

Recommending packages for operational research and investigation.

Contributing to the development of investigations into the disruption of immigration crime.

Liaison

Help develop and maintain strong internal and external stakeholder relationships with local law-enforcement, airlines, international liaison colleagues, as well as High Commission and Home Office colleagues. Seeking feedback on individual cases, exchanging information on subjects of interest, providing alerts and trend notices to partner agencies.

What we require from you:

A working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel.

Use of an evidence based approach to gather information from a wide range of sources and viewpoints, analysis and evaluation and reaching sound conclusions in order to propose constructive solutions.

Effective and confident communication skills.

The ability to prioritise work effectively under pressure.

Language requirements:

Language: English.

Level of language required: Fluent

Learning and development opportunities

Specialised training will be provided to the successful candidate and they will be expected to attend a training course in the UK which is anticipated to be for 2-3 weeks. Travel; accommodation and subsistence costs for the course will be provided.

Additional Information:

There may be the possibility of line management responsibility of an Immigration Liaison Assistant (A2) member of staff.  

The jobholder will be required to be available for regional travel in support of field visits, meetings and training.
