The Programmes Team purpose is to support Bahraini-led reform in certain areas through a package of UK technical assistance. This role is to ensure that UK assistance is of the highest quality and provided in a manner that builds public confidence, recognition and pride in a Bahraini-owned, Bahraini-led and Bahraini-delivered reform process.

You will manage and lead delivery of a portfolio of projects within the British Embassy Programme Team working to the Head of the Programmes Team and in close liaison with colleagues in the Embassy, the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, Local and International Stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities

Project Management:

  • Lead on a portfolio of projects that aim to support Bahraini-led reform and ensure that these projects are complementary and mutually reinforcing.
  • Focus on project management expertise: delivering results, keeping to budget, and dealing with risk.
  • Use a range of programme and project management tools to monitor team progress against set milestones.
  • Become Embassy risk expert: actively manage risks and put in place mitigation with UK implementing partners, escalating as appropriate; ensuring risk analyses are completed for each project; keeping top risk register and matrix updated.
  • Manage existing projects to include regular review meetings with implementing partners and local stakeholders.
  • Where appropriate, working with local and international partners to identify and develop new projects. Provide advice to potential implementers on submitting project bids, quality assuring project documents including budgets before submission to Boards.
  • To encourage contact and networking between project partners, organising and attending project-related events as required.
  • Lead on and feed into relevant paperwork as necessary.
  • Keep abreast of project management practice and indentify measures to streamline project management processes.
  • Briefing of senior British officials

Other:

  • Assist at Major Events.
  • Take part in the Embassy emergency planning and any response to a crisis.
  • Work on any additional adhoc projects or in any other areas when required.
  • Volunteer to serve on one Embassy Committee.

Language requirements:

 1.        English : Fluent written and oral

Essential

  • Excellent oral and written English is essential.
  • Exceptionally organised, university-educated candidate.
  • Minimum 2 years of projects and programme management experience.
  • A developed understanding of international and regional affairs
  • Excellent knowledge of and understanding of Bahraini politics and society
  • Ability to critically review and analyse complex sources of information
  • Strong IT skills; proficient in MS Office applications (e.g. Word, Excel) and social media
Knowledge of Arabic language.

A non-negotiable monthly salary package of 1025 BHD as well as private medical insurance, a leave entitlement and training package. Specific training and mentoring for the role will be provided for the successful candidate.  This may include training in London and the region.  This position is for a one year fixed term, with possibility of renewal.

Flexibility will be required on the working hours, including providing leave cover, but the usual working pattern will be Sunday to Thursday 0730 – 1430.

No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

The successful candidate will be subject to a 3 month probationary period and will need to commence security clearance procedures through the Embassy as soon as possible. Employment offers are subject to successful clearance of pre-employment checks.

Eligibility:

The successful applicant will be required to obtain security clearance. Higher clearances can be granted only to certain nationalities.  For this reason, candidates must be of British, American, Australian, Canadian or New Zealand nationality in order to gain the level of clearance required.

Process

The recruitment process, including security clearance, is expected to take around two months.

Due to the large amount of applications the Embassy receives only those shortlisted for interview will be contacted.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo security vetting procedures. Any offer of employment will be subject to the candidate achieving suitable clearances.
