View Vacancy - Deputy Head of DIT, Ukraine (UKR18.559)
The British Embassy in Kyiv is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit a Deputy Head of Department for International Trade (DIT).
The Department for International Trade (DIT) is the UK government department responsible for:
- Bringing together policy, promotion and financial expertise to break down barriers to trade and investment, and to help businesses succeed;
- Delivering a new trade policy framework for the UK as the UK leaves the EU;
- Promoting British trade and investment across the world;
- Building the global appetite for British goods and services.
We are looking for an experienced international trade professional to lead the DIT Ukraine team in promoting and developing UK exports to Ukraine.The successful candidate will be responsible for day-to-day management of the DIT Ukraine team, leading on delivery of strategic objectives including identification of export opportunities, securing of Export Wins for UK businesses, income generation and communication with key British and Ukrainian contacts.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsibility for delivery of strategic objectives. Team targets: Export Wins of £30m p.a. in Agri-Tech sector campaign and £10m in other sectors; income generation of £30,000 in DIT chargeable services (the Overseas Market Introduction Service or OMIS) and £10,000 in sponsorship; pipelines of opportunities identified in priority sectors (currently aerospace, defence & security, mining, nuclear and ports);
- Financial management. Responsibility for full and timely spend of the DIT Ukraine budget;
- Lead on DIT Business Planning, and relationship with DIT London and the regional network HQ in Istanbul;
- Communications. Effective communication with British companies, engagement with Ukrainian business and other relevant contacts including regional outreach;
- Government relations. Effective engagement with government agencies in Ukraine and in the UK on key business & investment climate issues;
- Provision of timely and accurate advice, in depth sector briefing and assistance to UK companies; organisation of large-scale events (e.g. UK national pavilions at major trade shows, inward and outward trade missions, conferences and networking events); coordination of inputs to briefings, programmes for visiting UK senior officials and senior business people;
- Management of a joined-up and motivated team with learning needs identified and opportunities made for L&D;
- Support to Embassy-wide initiatives, contributing to one-team agenda and cross-team working;
- Representational duties/overseas travel as required.
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in business, economics, finance or other related field;
- International trade/commercial experience;
- Basic understanding of the business & investment climate in the UK and in Ukraine;
- Project management skills;
- Proven track record of leading/managing teams;
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written in English, Russian and Ukranian;
- Budget management skills and experience.
- Marketing/event management skills and experience.
The appointment is a full-time permanent position.
This is a full-time position of 40 working hours per week including 1 hour per day for lunch. Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 17:00.
