The British Consulate General in Milan and British Embassy in Rome are part of a world-wide network representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. Our network is recruiting for a Senior Investment Adviser for the Department for International Trade (DIT).

Main purpose of job:

  • To promote Foreign Direct Investment and to identify local companies preparing for UK activities (FDI).
  • To help Italian clients successfully land their investments in the UK, and to generate new opportunities for future FDI projects in the Technology, Digital Manufacturing and Engineering sectors.
  • To line manage other investment adviser(s), supporting their development, and work collaboratively as part of a large team of investment advisers in Italy and across Europe.

Roles and responsibilities:

1. Land Italian Foreign Direct Investment in the UK, through the pursuit and delivery of an agreed number of Value and Volume FDI Investment successes; In order to do so the job holder will:

  • Monitor Italian Investor climate and economic outlook focusing on priority sectors of technology, digital manufacturing and engineering;
  • Identify, target and engage with decision makers with the objective of building a network of senior-level contacts in focus sectors;
  • Keep updated on the British economic climate and policies attractive to potential investors;
  • Identify, target and engage with decision makers with the objective of building a network of senior-level contacts in focus sectors;
  • Work in coordination with colleagues across Europe on campaigns promoting technology investment and venture capital matchmaking;
  • Promote specific high potential opportunities for investment across the UK with agreed counterparts in Italy;
  • Support management of a portfolio of Italian investment projects in priority sectors ensuring effective relationship management until they successfully land in the UK.

3. Manage relevant information sources. Monitor and report on activity in accordance with DIT procedures, including the accurate recording of client interactions on DIT’s knowledge management systems

4. Support the development and capability building of corporate objectives for the team acting as a point of reference for Learning & Development, working with colleagues across the UK Government's network in Italy 

5. Work closely with other members of the Italy Inward Investment team and the wider Italy network supporting delivery of events designed to profile the UK’s inward investment offer to a carefully targeted audience

 

  • Full professional proficiency in English and Italian (written and spoken, minimum of C1 level for CEFR framework* or equivalent);
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in related area (e.g. business development/sales/international trade);
  • Highly-developed client relationship management skills acquired in a business environment, with a clear commitment to excellent customer service;
  • Ability to work effectively and supportively with colleagues and contacts in the immediate and wider team;
  • Ability to respond flexibly to changing priorities;
  • Good sense of organisation and communication;
  • Up-to-date IT skills –i.e. full MS Office package, Microsoft Teams, Outlook.
  • Previous experience in International (Institutional) Organisations;
  • Previous experience in managing people;
  • Understanding of Digital Transformation processes and Decarbonisation Strategies across sectors.

This is a full-time temporary position with a contract of 12 months, graded EO according to the FCDO grading structure. The monthly gross salary is Euro 2929.00. The salary is paid monthly 14 times per year including € 10.33 EDR paid 13 times per year, with double salary payments in June and December. If working less than a full calendar year, the additional salary payments will be pro-rata. 

Working hours are 35 hrs per week Monday to Friday. 

The appointment is subject to security clearance, professional background check and the successful completion of a 4 month probationary period. 

All staff employed by the Embassy are subject to Italian income tax rate deductions (IRPEF). However the administration of these tax payments will vary depending on nationality. 

The successful candidate will be enrolled in the Italian State Social Security Scheme. Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Rome are subject to terms and conditions of service according to local Italian employment law. 

This job may be based in Milan or Rome.
