This is an opportunity to join the DIT team in the British High Commission Singapore as a Trade & Investment Manger in the Technology Team. The Technology team in DIT has a challenging set of targets to achieve, ensuring that UK companies win contracts and find opportunities in Singapore to deliver significant value to the UK economy each year. The team focuses on new and existing areas of technology and delivers support to UK companies from SMEs to multinationals looking to set up and trade with Singapore.
The Trade & Investment Manager will support the Senior Trade & Investment Manager in the Technology sector in seeking out new business opportunities for UK companies, expand business contacts, deliver events, and deliver challenging targets, as well as owning their own sub-sectors, relationships, and events.
What will the jobholder be expected to achieve?
To ensure that DIT can support UK technology companies to do business in Singapore, the Trade & Investment Manager will work alongside the Technology Team Leader to:
― Strategy and coordination
- Contribute to the development and delivery of the overall Technology campaign plan and develop areas around their own specific sub-sectors of technology.
- Liaise with internal colleagues to ensure that other teams (Infrastructure, Healthcare) are coordinated with the Technology campaign on cross-sectoral activities relevant to the Technology sector.
― Direct support for UK companies
- Carry out tailored work for UK firms based on in-depth market research.
- Identify opportunities in Singapore for UK firms and upload them to Great.Gov.UK and help UK firms to access them.
- Deliver projects, events, and activities such as inward missions, outward missions, seminars, exhibition groups, workshops, and webinars to help UK firms in Singapore.
― Strategic relationship management and marketing
- Collaborate with the Communications teams to deliver a marketing strategy for the Technology sector, monitoring media updates and marketing through social media channels.
- Manage client relationships, include building and maintaining a network of contacts in the UK and Singapore with both government and commercial contacts, and maintaining internal databases and records.
Throughout, the Manager will focus on developing their knowledge and understanding of the Technology sector in Singapore and the UK’s strengths in this area to ensure that they can be a trusted advisor to UK companies in this sector.
- Relevant professional experience in the area of business development
- Excellent communication, networking, negotiation, and customer service skills
- Considerable work experience in conducting market research
- Experience working in the Technology sector
- Experience in developing and implementing marketing campaigns
- Experience in organising and managing exhibitions, receptions, and trade missions
- Ability to manage budgets for events and activities
- Normal working hours are 37.5 per week: 8.30 am to 5.00 pm from Monday to Friday. There will be a requirement for occasional and limited out of hours work around events and visits. Time off in lieu can be offered for out of hours work.
- Monthly gross salary of SGD 4,273 + CPF/ CPF-in-lieu, with pro-rated 13th and 14th month pay
- 23 days paid annual leave (calculated pro-rata)
- Childcare leave (up to a maximum of 6 days per year, dependent upon age of children)
- Family Care leave (up to a maximum of 2 days per year)
- Medical insurance package covering GP, specialist, and hospitalisation
