The British Embassy in Doha has a vacancy for a Trade and Investment Officer, Grade A2 (L) position.

Objective:

The Department for International Trade (DIT) is the British Government Department responsible for providing operational support for exports and facilitating inward and outward investment.  DIT is helping the government reach its 2020 £1 trillion export and £1.5tr foreign direct investment targets.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Providing new and experienced British companies with the information and support they require to make informed business decisions and achieve success in Qatar. Supporting the DIT team, as required, by handling market research enquiries, coordinating events, recording business interactions, providing tailored reports and identifying business opportunities for British companies.

  • Briefing British businesses and responding to enquiries. Initiating, planning and delivering events and visits.
  • Overseeing support for visiting trade missions. Providing logistical support on VIP visits
  • Maintaining records of our contact with customers on our global Customer Relationship Management system.
  • Updating our key contact database to be used for invites to events
  • Providing administrative support for the Head of Investment and Senior Commercial Officer
  • DIT support on marketing – working with other team members to ensure messaging is on-brand, updating and adding new content to the DIT MENA Twitter account, encouraging the team to provide content for the account.
  • Any other duties as required by the Director of International Trade

Essential:

  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Strong IT computer skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Office and conducting internet searches.
  • Good presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to initiate and maintain a wide range of working relationships.
  • Previous experience in a customer facing role.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise and mange multiple deadlines in a fast paced environment.
  • Ideally, some knowledge of the Qatar business environment.

Desirable: 

  • Knowledge of Arabic language skills.
  • Experience of organising events and customer databases.
  • Experience of working in a large team and of working in the GCC.

Working hours and Remuneration:

The British Embassy offers a competitive remuneration package, including non-negotiable salary of 9,900 per calendar month and transportation allowance of QR800 per calendar month; a leave entitlement of 25 working days rising to 30 working days; and access to training. 

No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

Embassy working hours are 7.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. Sunday to Wednesday and 7.30am to 1.30 p.m. on Thursday.  This is a full time fixed term contract for one year on a non sponsored basis and due to the nature of the work, some flexibility on hours will be required.  

The successful candidate will need to commence security clearance procedures through the Embassy.

Eligibility:

Candidate must hold a valid Qatar ID.
