View Vacancy - CPK - Regional Cities Support Officer
The successful candidate will be part of the Regional Cities/Outreach team of “roving Consuls-General” in Northern China. The regional cities outreach team was created in 2013 and actively engages with China’s second and third tier cities in China’s provinces. It promotes UK experience, expertise and commercial links in a wide range of sectors.
The jobholder will be involved in a wide range of activities to expand and deepen the UK government’s engagement in target cities within BE Beijing’s consular region particularly focused on Tianjin, Hebei, Shanxi and Henan. The jobholder will need to travel frequently in order to extend and maintain relationships with the government, businesses, academics, journalists, and civil society. The overall aim is to build understanding and influence, primarily in support of HMG’s prosperity agenda, promoting the UK through private and public diplomacy, but also with wider embassy objectives (e.g. political, economic, consular, etc.) in mind.
The job holder will be involved in supporting the team to enhance its understanding of key regional cities, arrange and accompanying on visits. The job holder will be required to support the team and other embassy sections in their work, and to help develop projects.
The job holder will also be required to develop and maintain the team’s corporate materials and contact database; information and budget management for the team.
The successful candidate will need to have plenty of initiative, strong interpersonal and team working skills, confidence in his/ her verbal and written communication, good research skills, and the drive necessary to deliver results autonomously. In return, they can expect frequent opportunity to travel within the region, the chance to build a wide range of skills and experience, and a good overview of all HMG’s policy objectives in China.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Support Senior Regional Cities officer on priority municipalities and provinces, notably Tianjin, Henan, Shanxi and Hebei.
- Develop relationships and communicate with a range of stakeholders, including DIT, CBBC, British Council, as well as provide analysis of local political and economic trends
- Responsible for Outreach project finance management
- Collect regional news including regional personnel changes, economic developments, and produce summaries
- Visit regional cities regularly and collect first hand policy information from local government bodies
- Support and lead on visits and events in regional cities
Research and administration for Beijing outreach team, including team budget, information management (filing, contacts and visits databases) and share-point.
- Manage Outreach team budget by producing monthly travel and entertainment forecast and make comparison with actual spending report to provide accurate suggestions on spending
- Update team event and leave plan, contact list, organogram and share with related teams
- Update regional contacts database (Tianjin, Henan, Hebei, Shanxi)
- Update the Outreach web-page with the latest visit reports and diptels
- Holds a bachelor degree
- Experience in translation
- Excellent communications and writing skills
- Fluent in English and Chinese
- Chinese national
- Project management experience
- Budget monitoring
- Government affairs experience
We offer a competitive package, which includes basic salary, good leave entitlement, and insurance plan etc. The gross starting salary for this position before all deductions is RMB 10,348 per month for Chinese Nationals.
We also offer excellent development opportunities and a 22-day annual leave entitlement in pro rata. Conditioned working hours is 35 hours per week from Monday to Friday and flexible working can be arranged upon personal needs.
