The British Embassy in Amman is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual for the position of HVAC Technician/Charge Hand within TWG, Grade – A1 (L).

 

Purpose of the job:

Air conditioning technician will be responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration systems in the British Embassy offices and properties. Will be a Team Leader for other trades Technicians as well as Handymen.

 

Main Responsibilities:

• Ensure proper time management and timely completion of assigned tasks to an acceptable FCO standards

• Coordinate between other members of the TWG team

• Liaise with Office manager/ TWS to prioritise daily tasks for the TWG team

• Report back to TWS/ Office manager

• Comply with all applicable standards, policies, and procedures, including health and safety procedures and the maintenance of a clean work area.

• Repair or replace defective equipment, components, or wiring.

• Test electrical circuits and components for continuity, using electrical test equipment.

• Reassemble and test equipment following repairs.

• Inspect and test system to verify system compliance with plans and specifications and to detect and locate malfunctions.

• Discuss heating-cooling system malfunctions with users to isolate problems or to verify that malfunctions have been corrected.

• Record and report all faults, deficiencies, and other unusual occurrences, as well as the time and materials expended on work orders.

• Test pipe or tubing joints and connections for leaks, using pressure gauge or soap-and-water solution

• Adjust system controls to setting recommended by manufacturer to balance system, using hand tools.

• Recommend, develop, and perform preventive and general maintenance procedures such as cleaning, power-washing and vacuuming equipment, oiling parts, and changing filters.

• Lay out and connect electrical wiring between controls and equipment according to wiring diagram, using electrician's hand tools.

• Install auxiliary components to heating-cooling equipment, such as expansion and discharge valves, air ducts, pipes, blowers, dampers, flues and stokers, following blueprints.

• Assist with other work in coordination with repair and maintenance teams.

• Install, connect, and adjust thermostats, humidistats and timers, using hand tools.

• Generate work orders that address deficiencies in need of correction.

• Join pipes or tubing to equipment and to fuel, water, or refrigerant source, to form complete circuit.

• Cut and drill holes in floors, walls, and roof to install equipment, using power saws and drills in the installation of AC equipment.

• A strong communicator with excellent spoken and written Arabic and English
• Ability to translate both from English to Arabic as well as Arabic to English

• Gained certification within your field of expertise (HVAC)

• IT skills of Outlook, Word, Excel

Working Hours and Remuneration:

The position is full-time, at 37 hours a week with considerations of flexibility depending on circumstances. The successful applicant would be expected to start work as soon as possible.

The vacancy is offered on the basis of fixed term contract for 12 months – renewable based on performance.

Pay is on the Embassy A1 (L) scale, starting at JOD 735.50 per month depending on the candidate’s skills and experience. The package includes a good level of health insurance and a friendly, English-speaking work environment. We offer opportunities to develop professional skills through our Learning & Development offer. Leave entitlement is 21 days (pro rated) plus 14 public holidays.
