View Vacancy - Head of Finance (6 Month Contract)
The British Consulate-General in New York is offering an exciting opportunity for an intelligent, resourceful, self-motivated individual to join the DIT Network Operations Team for a period of approx. 6 months. The role is the ‘Head of Finance’ reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, USA.
Internal Candidates: This will be a secondment opportunity for six months. Successful internal applicants from outside of the New York Post will have accommodation provided for them.
The UK’s Department for International Trade (DIT) has overall responsibility for promoting UK trade across the world and attracting foreign investment to our economy. The DIT USA Head of Finances is responsible and accountable for the overall financial management, analysis and reporting of all DIT US budget streams. The position sits within the New York Network Operations Team and reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer, DIT, USA. The position is a 6 month temporary contract to cover a Maternity Leave.
Financial & Budgetary Management:
• Administer annual operational and activity budgets to DIT geographical and Sectors Teams across the US. Monitor performance and reallocate funds in order to meet business needs, maximise network delivery and deliver DIT US network year end spend within 1% of allocation
Financial Policy and Guidance:
• Lead on DIT USA financial policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with regulations and drive process improvement and policy development initiatives.
• Make continuous updates to DIT US Financial Guidance in line with Government policy.
Financial Reporting & Analysis:
• Create Monthly Dashboards and quarterly summaries for Senior Management demonstrating DIT USA financial position and highlighting risks and opportunities. Provide budget variance analysis, and forecasts to Senior Management. Assess validity and accuracy of financial data, address any errors with HQ and resolve.
• Manage DIT US relationship with UK HQ on all aspects of Finance ensure accurate and informed monthly and quarterly returns
• Drive and advocate monthly forecasting accuracy of 5% for the US Network through maintenance and improvement of robust financial processes and internal protocols.
• Conduct stringent monitoring of budget and implement internal protocols in order to facilitate smooth operation of monthly budget processes.
• Work collaboratively with COO to complete annual Post Financial Plan for the US Network to ensure that DIT US is allocated sufficient funds to support resource and objective demands.
Procurement:
• Lead on procurement policy for DIT US. Manage and drive initiatives such as the development and execution of training across posts. Apply procurement best practice with teams and team leaders ensuring that guidelines are updated and shared regularly.
• Interact with the internal and external stakeholders including other government departments, sponsors, vendors and suppliers to drive timely payment of invoices and receipt of fund
• Support NY based teams on requisition generation and approvals.

• 6-8 years of relevant work experience
• Strong financial and budgetary experience
• Demonstrated ability to problem solve, organize and work to deadlines with excellent follow-up discipline
• Proven administrative skills, ability to prioritize and effectively manage and execute multiple tasks
• Strong ability to communicate with organizations effectively and credibly at a senior level
• Excellent presentation and communication skills, with an ability to emphasise relevant information and provide clear, concise summaries of complex data sets.

• Advanced Excel skills and ability to quickly grasp financial management reporting tools.
