Main purpose of job

To provide monitoring and administrative support to the Political Team in the British Embassy, particularly on projects delivery and on human rights and internal/domestic policy issues.

This is a challenging position within the Political Team at the British Embassy. The successful candidate will have the chance to develop skills and experiences through providing administrative, communication and reporting support. He/she will be an essential part of the team developing policy areas and network objectives.


Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide support for projects, events and visits. Responsibilities include arranging meetings, booking venues, setting up events (branding, catering, etc.), organising logistics, coordinating mailing lists, sending and following up on invitations, etc.
  • Provide monitoring and reporting support for domestic/internal policy matters and for human rights internal issues. Responsibilities include writing and delivering briefings, monitoring news, conducting stakeholder mapping exercises and carrying out longer research papers.
  • Supporting the wider work of the team. Responsibilities include providing input to budget management, supporting on wider events from the team and the Network, translating documents and updating the team’s key documents.

Must be at enrolled on the second or third year of an ungraduate programme. Preferable disciplines include Anthropology, Sociology, Political Science, Public Policies Management and International Relations. We are very open to students from any other discipline if they can demonstrate in their application an ongoing interest and insight in foreign and domestic politics related issues.

Language requirements:  Portuguese / English (professional proficiency)

An interest in developing projects and programme management skills, as well as for Brazilian internal/domestic human rights and political topics, would be an advantage. Strong organisational skills and an ability to work across projects is desirable, as well as flexibility to work across different areas of the team. IT skills (Word and MS Excel) are a requirement.

The selected candidate will undertake some mandatory training and will have an opportunity to enrol in a set of learning activities during the internship, also integrating the UK in Brazil interns’ network.

Working patterns: 

30 hours per week, with a flexible working pattern to be agreed in advance.
