This is an exciting opportunity for a digital communications specialist to work within the British Embassy Yangon press and communications team for a fixed term of six months (with possibility of extension). The main purpose of the job is to develop and administer content for the embassy’s social media channels.

We’re looking for an ambitious individual who will be creative in developing new types of content to engage our target audiences and deliver UK government messages. You will provide guidance on social media to other members of the communications team and colleagues across the embassy, and contribute to developing communications plans and campaigns. You will lead on the monitoring and evaluation of social media activity, and assist in developing the embassy’s social media strategy.

The jobholder will have the opportunity to develop wider public diplomacy and communications skills, and make a wide range of contacts in the diplomatic and international development fields.

Roles and responsibilities:

The jobholder will be responsible for gathering and creating innovative content for the embassy’s social media channels (currently with a focus on Facebook). You will create visually appealing images, videos and infographics, and write about complex issues in a way that is engaging and easy to understand. Our posts are published in both English and Myanmar language, so you will need to be confident writing and translating into both languages.

The jobholder will help to build social media engagement and increase our number of followers. You will proactively seek to generate interactions and conversations with our followers, and develop new ways to engage in two-way conversation with our audiences, including by arranging live and interactive discussions. You will keep up to date with social media trends to ensure we’re using the right tools and techniques to reach our audiences.

The jobholder will contribute to communications planning meetings and maintain a schedule of social media activity. You will also carry out social media listening to track conversations about issues that are of interest to the embassy. You will provide regular evaluation reports on social media activity, and make recommendations for future activity based on your findings.

The jobholder will liaise with the central FCO communications team in London, and the regional team in Singapore, to develop content supporting centrally managed communications campaigns. You may also be required to provide general support to the team across a wide range of media and communications activity. This may include Ministerial and VIP visits, or supporting press conferences and public events.
