Main purpose of job

To proactively support Her Majesty’s Government and Falkland Islands Government (FIG) efforts to promote Falkland Islanders’ right to self-determination to the widest possible audience across the globe.

  • Project managing vital International Public Diplomacy projects and leading on all Senior/VIP visits
  • Regular liaison with FIG, and British Embassies  across the world, as well as other stakeholders in the design and delivery of public affairs projects
  • Daily media monitoring and management of the Government House website and Twitter account
  • Supporting the Governor and Deputy Governor on wider policy and media-related work in Government House

Roles and responsibilities

  • Project managing vital International Public Diplomacy projects and leading on all Senior/VIP visits. This includes managing and delivering over 20 public diplomacy projects at almost £200,000 per annum and international fund projects of £40,000 – which cover political, economic, sport and social issue projects
  • Regular liaison with FIG, and British Embassies across the world, as well as other stakeholders in the design and delivery of public affairs projects. Attend international conferences to highlight the Falklands.
  • Daily media monitoring and management of the Government House website and Twitter account – providing daily reports on social media on GH, FCO and wider FI/HMG issues
  • Supporting the Governor and Deputy Governor on wider policy and media-related work in Government House

 

 




  • Excellent communication skills and a proven ability to analyse complex situations
  • Strong relationship management skills will be essential
  • Political awareness and judgement
  • Drive, determination and teamwork
  • Discretion and confidentiality are vital
  • Degree-level qualification (or equivalent skills and attributes) and a background in media and/or communications.  The ability to speak Spanish would be an advantage.
