You would work for the Department for International Trade (DIT) as part of the British Embassy team in Hanoi.  DIT is responsible for promoting British trade across the world.  DIT in Vietnam has a network of 2 trade teams, based in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, working together to deliver DIT objectives. 

 

Working with the DIT healthcare lead in HCMC, your primary role will be to assist UK companies in the healthcare sector do business in Vietnam, including management of our strategic relationships with relevant Government departments and with key stakeholders in the sector.  You will be expected to identify new healthcare projects needing UK expertise and work with the UK to source that expertise. You will also work on market access issues affecting British companies in this sector so your role will involve building up an extensive range of contacts and understanding sometimes technical information.  This sector is an important sector for the UK in Vietnam with pharmaceutical exports our second largest export to Vietnam. 

 

You will be the principle lead for DIT healthcare projects in Vietnam as well as Hanoi based DIT projects.  These are ODA projects with the primary purpose of assisting Vietnam in its development.  This year we are managing two projects – one in healthcare and one in education.

 

As the role evolves you may be expected to take on more market access work across sectors so this role is ideally suited to someone who with a proven track record of building good working relationships with government officials and companies and understanding different stakeholders’ points of view – focusing on both sides to any issue.  You will also be expected to work on the UK and Vietnam’s annual Joint Economic and Trade Cooperation Talks.

 

This role is ideally suited to someone who is proactive and comfortable working under limited supervision – coming up with their own solutions to problems – but knowing when and how to seek advice from others.  You should also be a strong networker who seeks out new relationships while maintaining current relationships.  You will also be expected to make a positive contribution to the wider DIT and British government team which will include working closely with colleagues in the Embassy and British Consulate-General in Ho Chi Minh City, British Business Group Vietnam and the wider ASEAN region. 

 

The UK is proud of its healthcare system which provides universal free at the point of use healthcare to the UK population. UK companies and universities offer a full range of services including clinical services, infrastructure services and funding models, training, healthcare system development, genomics and personalised medicine, digital health solutions and patient safety as well as word leading pharmaceuticals and equipment.  You should seek to develop a good awareness of UK expertise in this area.

 

You will sometimes be expected to interpret in meetings within your sector, for companies and UK based staff.

 

Develop opportunities for British Business in the UK healthcare market – 40%

Work with companies, organisations and individuals who may be sources of opportunities for UK companies, formulating and managing a stakeholder engagement plan for these companies. Work closely with the British Business Group in Vietnam (BBGV) to identify and advertise ‘value’ and ‘volume’ to alert British Businesses to opportunities in the healthcare sector.  Develop and manage sector pipeline, stakeholder map and strategy for healthcare sector to deliver DIT objectives – working with the region as relevant. 

 

Deliver successful trade related promotional activity – 10%

Work with the wider Trade Team on other sectors as required, including providing support to trade missions, seminars, webinars, receptions and other events to promote the UK – leading these events when required.

 

Lead on healthcare market access issues – 25%

Working with a wide range of stakeholders source relevant and complete information for British companies facing market access issues in Vietnam and develop plans for finding a resolution (where possible) to those issues. You should  maintain a list of ongoing issues, with background and suggested next steps and regular engage with DIT HQ in London about these issues – proactively providing them with updates.

 

Lead on DIT healthcare and Hanoi based projects – 25%

Use project management techniques to successfully deliver projects on time and within budget.  Work with stakeholders to develop project proposals as relevant and ensure projects are meeting Vietnamese and UK objectives.  Support regional work to understand opportunities in sector.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in both English and Vietnamese
  • Ability to effectively and credibly deal with companies/organizations at a senior level through all forms of communication and a proven track record of fostering business and government relationships
  • Excellent research and report writing skills – with an ability to identify relevant information and provide clear, concise summaries
  • Proactive, self-starting approach to work with the ability to deliver effectively under limited day-to-day supervision in a deadline-sensitive, fast-paced environment
  • Good IT skills
  • Knowledge of the healthcare sector in the UK and Vietnam
  • Proven project management skills
