The British Embassy in The Hague is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is looking for an Events Intern.

The internship is a unique opportunity to experience a programme from beginning to end, including development, production and evaluation. The internship will cover a range of areas including project and stakeholder management, as well as communication and public relations.

The main purpose of the job is to help organising this year’s Queen’s Birthday Party (QBP) at the Ambassador’s Residence, which entails: develop concept (theme, entertainment, sponsorship, catering, etc), coordinate guest list and liaising with security team on security and logistic arrangements.

The Queen celebrates two birthdays each year: her actual birthday on 21 April and her official birthday on (usually) the second Saturday in June. The British Embassy in the Netherlands will organize a reception in occasion of HRM Queen Elizabeth the II birthday. Hundreds of guests from politics, business, culture and other diverse areas will be invited to celebrate the Queen´s birthday.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate arrangements on providing Embassy guest list for QBP, including coordinating the invitation process and RSVPs for the whole Embassy;
  • Oversight, auctioning, and delegation of QBP mailbox- Day to day coordinate and provide general assistance as required by QBP committee;
  • Assist on QBP clerical duty including taking meeting records, arranging regular QBP committee meeting, distributing minutes/reports, keeping all files record etc.;
  • Provide support on the day of QBP event, subjected to QBP committee recommendation;
  • Work closely with QBP planning committee and provide regular updates on planning points and raise any concerns to QBP committee;
  • Liaison with wider staff on press handling/security/and VIP handling;
  • Coordination of banners and displays/messaging;
  • Provide detailed briefing notes ahead of event to Staff volunteers;
  • Liaise with Corporate Service on budget monitoring and management;
  • Keep track of sponsorship letters and bids, working closely with Private Office and Corporate Services.
  • Ability to work to deadlines; 
  • Highly flexible and adaptable;
  • Proactive, independent and self-motivated;
  • Tactful and diplomatic manner and an ability to liaise effectively and productively with staff and clients at all levels; 
  • Some experience of organising events/teams/projects; 
  • Excellent research and writing skills in both English and Dutch.

The successful candidate will be offered a four-months internship.

Interns receive a flat compensation rate of €400 per month based on a 20 hour week.

The successful candidate will undergo a professional background check; Any internship offer is also provisional to a successful security clearance check.
