Community Liaison

Main purpose of job:

To be a self-starting advocate for and provide support to UK-based staff and their families, primarily in the areas of community relations, information gathering, and welfare issues. To represent the interests of UK-based dependants with senior management and in other official fora. 


Roles and responsibilities: 

  • Information-gathering for officers, partners and families (including those not yet at Post) – primarily on spouse/partner employment at Post; education and training opportunities; health facilities; and recreational and social facilities and events. 
  • Co-ordinating updates for the Port Report and Fact Sheet and completion of certain returns, e.g.: Cost of Living (COLA) and Diplomatic Services Family Association (DSFA) return, Educational returns. 
  • Welfare at Post – welcoming new arrivals and families to ensure as smooth an integration as possible into the life of the Post community; following up to check that the settling-in process is working;  being a source of referral and support where questions, problems and difficulties arise; management of  Welcome Pack and induction materials (non-work related); advocate on behalf of UK-based staff and dependants in addressing issues of importance with Post management, including as their representative on Post Management Committee and Post Security Committee. 
  • Communicating effectively on community and social matters within the Post (to both UK-based and local staff), production of regular written (e-mail) updates and organizing meetings to keep people informed and connected. 
  • Liaison with the Diplomatic Services Family Association (DSFA) and CLO world-wide network.
  
Familiarity with Microsoft Office programmes
