The main purpose of job is to help the Political Section deliver its objectives under the Embassy’s Country Business Plan by delivering quality reporting and analysis of key political personalities and events; insight into Thailand’s relations with its neighbours and support for the wider activities of the Section.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Monitor domestic political comment in Thai-language social media, television and newspapers; attend seminars and meetings to further enhance knowledge. Report on key themes to Embassy colleagues and the Thailand Desk at FCO London
  • Respond to tailored requests from the Political Counsellor/Deputy Head of Mission to track developments regarding Thailand’s relationships with ASEAN members and China
  • Respond to tailored requests from other sections (e.g. trade, prosperity, defence) for information on political developments, key political personalities, political decision-making processes, and key institutions
  • Translate key documents, prepare diplomatic notes, maintain the contacts database and up-to-date CVs of key contacts; arrange and attend  Political Section events (e.g. receptions)
  • Play your part as a member of the Embassy’s crisis response team 5%
  • Fluent in written and spoken Thai and English
  • xcellent knowledge of Thai politics and parliamentary affairs
  • Strong interpersonal skills and initiative with the ability to work as part of a team
  • Flexible, resilient under pressure and decisive with a proven track record of delivering results to a high standard
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience, working on political issues, preferably in a diplomatic mission, government department, think-tank, international organisation, media organisation or NGO

This job is suitable for flexible working patterns, subject to operational requirements. In crisis/emergency situations work as required to support the Embassy response (sometimes on a shift pattern working unsociable hours)
