The British Council is the UK’s international organization for educational opportunities and cultural relations. Our offices are located within the British Embassy in Washington DC and the British Consulate General in New York City.  British Council’s part-time temporary posts provide an opportunity for high quality work experience and learning in a global organization.  

The position will support British Council’s education team which works in the K-12 and higher education sectors in the UK, US and other countries involved in its projects. 

Main duties include:

  • Market research to support the development of new projects and initiatives
  • Logistical support to events, including attendance at some events outside of normal business hours
  • Occasional administrative support to education projects
  • Support on external and internal communications, including content development for website and social media and creation of marketing materials
  • Monitor and highlight newsworthy US education developments for the team and external audiences
  • Support to the monitoring of established multilateral higher education research projects.

 


Minimum Qualifications/Experience 

  • A graduate level student, or graduate
  • Interest in international cultural affairs, international education and/or the US/UK strategic relationship
  • Interest in relevant key British Council program areas
  • Office/administrative work experience
  • Excellent communication, organizational and research skills
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work in a small, fast-paced office
  • Evidence of successful team working
  • Positive attitude and independent work skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office; use of a CRM system desirable

As this British Council is co-located within the British Embassy network (including the British Consulate General New York), please note the following guidance on employment eligibility.  Under US State Department requirements, the Embassy (and its Consulates) may only employ, as non-diplomatic staff, persons who are US citizens, US Green Card holders or A or NATO visa holders with EAD cards. If you hold a visa other than an A or NATO visa you are not currently eligible to work at the Embassy or its Consulates.  All candidates will be subject to background checks and security clearance.

The temporary posts are for 20 hours per week through the end of March 2017.  Hours are flexible, subject to mutual agreement, and the hourly rate is $11.50.
