UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) is the international business development agency of the Government of the United Kingdom and works to foster transatlantic business relations between the US and the UK.   UKTI USA, works closely with UKTI headquarters in London, with related agencies in the UK and with representatives of the English Regions and the UK’s Devolved Administrations in the US to assist US companies looking to invest in the UK. This internship position would support the various trade and investment teams of the UKTI Washington office on specific projects, initiatives and administrative/management duties in the following sectoral areas - Financial Services, Aid-Funded Business, Homeland Security and Defence, BioPharma and Life Sciences, ICT and Advanced Engineering, and Energy and the Environment.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the preparation, organisation and execution of outward and inward trade missions, networking receptions, visit programs and other platforms
  • Conduct research and assist with writing reports tailored to UK Companies as part of UKTI’s Overseas Market Information Service (OMIS) program
  • Conduct research on inward investment prospects into the UK from the Embassy’s consular region
  • Enter contact details and interactions onto the Customer Relations Management Database in support of team targets
  • Perform administrative duties in support of the overall UKTI office management and as needed by the Head of Trade and Investment
  • Must be a junior or a senior in an undergraduate program, or enrolled in a graduate program by the start date of your internship (minimum 60 credit hours of undergraduate coursework completed). Since this is an unpaid internship, students receiving college credit in exchange for their internships is required.
  • A self-starter - able to work independently and show initiative with limited day-to-day supervision while operating as part of a wider US/UK team (with wide-ranging objectives)
  • Strong research, reading comprehension, writing, and communication skills with attention to detail is essential
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) is essential
  • Excellent organisational skills are a necessity
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team and under tight deadlines

 

Under US State Department requirements, the Embassy may only employ, as non-diplomatic staff, persons who are US citizens, US Green Card holders, A or J1 Visa holders with valid Work Authorization Document. If you hold a Visa other than an A or J1 Visa you are not currently eligible to work at the Embassy. All candidates will be subject to background checks and security clearance.

These are unpaid internships, for college credit only, but the Embassy does provide a stipend of $100 per month for
transportation costs.

This internship will start on 19 September 2016 and end on 9 December 2016.
