The British Embassy Riyadh has a vacancy for a Chancery Support Officer for a fixed-term contract for two (2) years.

The jobholder will provide administrative, secretarial and organisational support to the Political and Economic Teams in the Embassy including on project work, senior level visits, events, financial administration, and information management.


Duties and responsibilities:

  • Visits support: Support official visits, including visa liaison and booking accommodation, flights, and transport for incoming visitors and Embassy staff travelling outside of Riyadh.
  • Events support: Coordinate with the Residence and Events Manager to ensure receptions, meetings, and events are well-planned and delivered efficiently, including by designing and issuing invitations, and managing guest and RSVP lists. Play an active role on the Queen’s Birthday Party (QBP) planning committee.
  • Budget management: Managing Chancery Teams’ budget records and producing quarterly updates for Corporate Services. Purchase of services and equipment for Chancery. Provide administrative support for Chancery project work, including managing suppliers, gathering and uploading information to ensure timely payment, and creating and closing purchase orders.
  • Contact lists management: Keep Embassy contact lists up to date. Coordination of note verbales and follow ups with Government Relations Team.
  • Information management: Manage filing system and archives. Support ad hoc information management tasks, including annual update of Crisis Management Plan.
  • Logistical support: Administrative support for Chancery meetings, including to escort visitors to and from meetings and provide refreshments.
  • Corporate: Take part and assist in duties for the wider Embassy, and actively participate in a corporate objective.

The above list is not exhaustive and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required, including participating in the Embassy’s emergency planning and any other response to a crisis affecting UK citizens.

Eligibility:

The successful applicant will be required to obtain the necessary security clearance. Higher clearances can be granted only to certain nationalities. For this reason, candidates must be of British, American, Australian, Canadian, or New Zealand nationality in order to gain the level of clearance required.

The position is available to holders of Saudi residence permits or transferable iqamas. The successful candidate will be required to transfer their sponsorship to the British Embassy.


Working hours and remuneration:

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role.

Salary details:

  • Base Salary including Eid bonus - SAR 5,645.22
  • Housing Allowance - SAR 1,411.31 (subject to eligibility)*
  • Travel Allowance - SAR 400 (subject to eligibility)*

*Allowances are not payable to staff who receive official provision for such expenditure in some other form.

No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.


Normal working hours for the Embassy are 08.00 to 15.00 from Sunday to Thursday. This position is full-time, based on 35 hours per week.

The jobholder should also be flexible in their approach to hours worked as these will also be dictated by operational needs and may involve working out of hours (evening and weekend), especially during events and visits.

The successful candidate will be subject to a 90-day probationary period.
