Main purpose of job:

Communications officer for post. Develop close working relationship with communications and press stakeholders at post as well as within the region. Potential to develop role into project work.


Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

·  Responsible for Government House’s Twitter feed managing an appropriate flow of Tweets and Retweets as well as producing monthly activity reports.

·  Proof reading documentation and communications, collating information for and drafting speaking notes.

·  Liaising with local press and Falkland Islands Government Communications team.

·  Oversight of the Chevening Scholarship programme including:

         o Liaising with Chevening team in the UK and other overseas territories.

         o Advertising Chevening locally

         o Ordering supplies

         o Managing interview process and reporting upon it to Chevening in the UK.

·  Annual leave cover to include administrative and events management duties.

The successful candidate will be articulate and able to engage colleagues and build a rapport with the regional Communications Hub based in Mexico City. The job holder will have excellent attention to detail combined with the ability to look at the big picture. Organisational skills and the ability to multitask and troubleshoot problems creatively are important. A good working knowledge of Twitter is required and knowledge of other social media platforms would be an asset.  

Essential on arrival:

- GCSEs in English and Maths.

- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office including MS Teams.

- Must have the legal status to live and work in Falkland Islands


Language requirements:

Language: English, Spanish

Level of language required: English – Fluent, Spanish – a working understanding helpful, but not necessary.

- Administration qualifications

- Language or PR qualifications

There will be the opportunity for online learning and development and to participate in broader FCDO training activities.  

Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.

This is a broad based post requiring the individual to work across a wide range of stakeholders, many of whom are not based in the Falkland Islands. As such the post holder is expected to be able to create and sustain relationships that enable objectives to be met.
