The British Embassy, Dubai has a vacancy for a Regional Manager, Scottish Development International - D6 (L).

Role summary

An exciting opportunity exists for a D6/Regional Manager to lead Scotland’s International Economic development activities across the Middle East Region.

The Middle East is home to some of the most important and fastest growing global economies.  It is also one of Scotland’s most important export markets, particularly in sectors including oil & gas, food & drink and education.

The Regional Manager will be responsible for driving transformational change in Scotland’s international trade and investment with the Middle East by leading a high performing team of experienced colleagues and utilising the full resources of our organisation.  

The successful candidate will also be expected to develop and execute an integrated sales and marketing strategy for the Gulf Region based on our key sector priorities and growth ambitions.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead, manage and coach the Middle East team to maximise the economic opportunity for Scotland from the Region
  • Participate as a member of the EMEA Regional Management Team, and lead the Middle East team’s relationships with colleagues in Scotland and elsewhere.
  • Lead on the development and implementation of an integrated sales and marketing plan for the Gulf Region which targets the region’s top companies consistent with our sector priorities and the specific opportunities to do business with/in Scotland. 
  • Responsibility for ensuring High Performing Account Teams are operating for all Middle East existing investors
  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with key partner organisations, including the Dept for International Trade (DIT) throughout the Gulf Region.
  • Lead on the operational planning process for Gulf Region across all priority sectors.
  • Manage the effective and efficient running of our offices in Dubai and Al Khobar (KSA), ensuring full compliance with local registration, and ensure legal and labour law requirements are met in conjunction with our appointed global advisers.
  • Provide excellent administrative management of our resources, ensuring that value for money is achieved at all times.

  • Significant International sales and marketing experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the confidence to establish relationships at the highest possible levels including Scottish and Foreign Ministers
  • Previous experience of budget management and a strong grasp of the financial side of operations. A clear understanding of public accountability is also essential.
  • Ability to ensure the operations are compliant with corporate governance, legal requirements, taxation issues and the labour law requirements in country.
  • Previous experience of complex project management
  • Ability to operate throughout the Gulf region and to other overseas locations if required
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills, with a high level of confidence and competence in operating at a senior level
  • Ability to work well under pressure to tight deadlines in a highly challenging and demanding environment.
  • Sensitivity and awareness of different cultures relevant to this role.
  • Previous experience in running a trade and investment team
  • Previous experience of working within a geographically dispersed team and overseas post
  • Previous experience of working in the Gulf Region
  • Relevant sectoral experience, ideally in energy, tourism or food and drink.
  • The ability to undertake travel and work outside of core hours is essential to this post.

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including: salary of AED 28,085 per month inclusive, Grade D6(L); performance bonus, five weeks’ vacation per annum, free on-site parking  and free access to on-site swimming pool, gymnasium and sports facilities.

No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

Standard working hours are from 7.30am to 2.30pm on Sunday to Thursday, with flexible starting and finishing times. For this role, there will be a requirement to travel sometimes at short notice, to work out of usual hours and on weekends. 

ELIGIBILITY

The successful applicant will be required to obtain the necessary security clearance.
